Sketch of the Alpine A110 Cup Racer gives us chills

French automaker Alpine was founded in 1955 by Jean Rédélé, and was bought by Renault in the 1970s. Subsequently, Alpine production ceased in 1995. This year, the company was reborn as they introduced the new Alpine A110. The company is hoping to continue its success with this model. They also have plans to develop a small SUV to put in the same segment as the Porsche Macan.

It didn’t take long as the A110 is scheduled to make a debut soon. The A110 will come out in two variants, a racing version and a road legal version. And recently, the company revealed a sketch of what looks like the race car variant. The image does not say a lot because only the top part of the front fascia can be seen. But looking at the image, it seems like the road going version will have a more aggressive look, with its pronounced diffuser, a tow hook, and some more details to the hood - all of which helps improve airflow.

Under the hood of the road-going model will be a 1.8 liter turbocharged engine that can produce 252 horsepower (188 kilowatts) and 236 pound feet (320 Newton-metres) of torque. Overall, it weighs about 2,380 pounds (1,080 kilograms), which is considerably pretty lightweight.

On the other hand, the racing version will most likely include a more powerful engine (perhaps turbocharged), which should naturally give out over 252 horsepower. Inside, it will be modified for the track, which should include a full roll cage, and a bodykit with enhanced aerodynamics. The interior will completely be different to cut out some weight, making it lighter than the road-legal model.

Signatech, a racing company based in France, will put the finishing touches on the design of the car. They will make sure that the racers comply with the FIA-homologation standards. Alpine’s LMP2 racing cars are set to participate in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) as well as the Le Mans.

These cars will only be a part of the one-make series that will be revealed next year. The Alpine A110 racer will join a number of circuits around Europe and the company hopes to attract 20 entries. So far, there is no date yet for the opening round of the race.

The A110 Cup series is not the company’s first one-make championship. Sometime in 1985 and 1988, the French company ran the Alpine GTA Europa Cup with track versions of the GTA V6 Turbo sports car. Each round was a representation for European Formula 1 grand prix.
