Toyota 86 GT British Green Limited is a Japan-only special edition
It has been nearly eight years since Toyota entered a new era of sports cars when it officially unveiled the production version of the Toyota 86 – also known as Toyota FT86 or Toyota GT86 – at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show. The Toyota 86 was regarded as a knight in shining armor as it arrived in the market.
There has been a rumor that the Japanese carmaker is planning to follow up the current generation of Toyota 86 – already old as of present – with an all-new model. But the arrival of the Supra means that Toyota won't bother itself with next-gen 86, at least not in the new few years or until 2021. But as to make the car remain relevant, the carmaker is offering a special edition of the sports coupe – the Toyota 86 GT British Green Limited.
The recent big reveal of the open-secret Toyota Supra remains a source of discussion among automotive fans and enthusiasts, especially those of Toyota’s. For these people, the launch of the next-generation Supra was like the arrival of the Messiah. Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean the Toyota 86 would fail to impress, especially if a special edition donning an exclusive suit is currently at offer.
Both the Toyota 86 sports coupe and the British Green color are icons. Starting from the Toyota AE86 of the 1980s, the Toyota 86 has sporty roots based on perfect balance. On the other hand, British Green is a classic color only donned by the fast – typically during races and sports events. Thus, it was only fitting for the 86 to be wrapped in such a finish, as this combination would surely please the purists, and become the Toyota 86 GT British Green Limited.
Aside from its apparent British Green finish, this special edition sports car boasts of some upgrades, but none pertains to its powertrain. Nonetheless, these upgrades should make the Toyota 86 special edition more capable when on the road, even by just a bit. For instance, the Toyota 86 GT British Green Limited rides on lightweight and high-rigidity cast aluminum wheels. Stopping power, meanwhile, is provided for by a Brembo brake system with large discs, employing four-piston front calipers and two-piston rear calipers.
Inside, the Toyota 86 GT British Green Limited comes with new two-tone sports seats wrapped in Alcantara leather as well as black steering wheel and gear shifter gaiter with contrasting orange stitching. But if you’re looking an infotainment system on the center console, there is none.
While the Toyota 86 GT British Green Limited is good news, we are sorry to disappoint as this special edition might only be limited in Japan. Interested customers have until end of May to order this special 86, at a price that starts at JPY3.318 million.
