R U Ready for the McLaren 620R SupeRcaR's Rowdier R Pack?

 The redundantly R-ified package adds an upgraded exhaust to the 610-hp sports car.

Last month, McLaren introduced a version of the 570S GT4 race car tamed just enough to be allowed on the road. Dubbed the 620R, the coupe is limited to just 225 copies for the world, all hand-assembled at McLaren's factory in Woking, UK. Now, the automaker is sweetening the deal with an optional R package that includes a beefier exhaust, a roof scoop, and other upgrades but not a name change to 620RR or 620R squared.

The R Pack spruces up the overall design with carbon fiber upgrades, including carbon-fiber front fender vents and carbon-fiber interior accents. The package also brings along a special titanium exhaust that's up to 5 decibels louder than regular exhaust options. It's finished in a gloss black paint for added visual appeal. The carbon-fiber roof scoop, inspired by the McLaren F1 Longtail, is a fully functional air intake system and features a camera to record track sessions. All in all, R Pack adds £25,000 (about $32,000 at current exchange rates) to the price of the coupe—not bad considering you'll pay more for the upgrades when optioned separately.

Under the sheetmetal, the McLaren 620R borrows its 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine from the 570S GT4. Freed from racing regulations, the engine has been modified to achieve 610 hp, making it the most powerful Sports Series car in the McLaren lineup. Power is routed through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. McLaren claims the race-bred coupe can go from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds and onto a top speed of 200 mph. To achieve such high levels of performance, McLaren shed weight where it could. The car maintains a dry weight of just 1,282 pounds.

Also inspired by the GT4 car, an adjustable carbon fiber wing improves airflow around the 620R. This road-legal wing contributes to the 620R's maximum of 408 pounds of downforce at 155 mph. The car also comes with carbon ceramic brakes, two-way manually adjustable GT4 dampers, and Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires.
