Belgian granny is caught doing 147 mph on her Porsche Boxster GTS
One sleepless night in June 2016, a 79-year-old Granny from Belgium took her Porsche for a ride to try to clear her head. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, except Grandma pushed herself to the limits and drove all the way to 147 mph. Apparently, the incident was caught by Namur Belgium’s speed camera so there’s no denying that it was her driving the sports car in that speed.
Gazet Van Antwerpen, a local news reporter, said that the elderly woman was headed to court earlier this week to face charges for driving well over 236 kilometers per hour. While at the court hearing, the lady admits that she was indeed the one driving the Porsche Boxster GTS last year but she hadn’t realized it was going too fast. Granny thinks it’s “not a problem” if she had to pay the fine of €4,000 (that’s about 4,663 USD after the current exchange rates) as imposed by the Public Prosecutor. Besides the hefty sum of money, she’s also banned from driving for 3 months as a result of over speeding.
The Porsche Boxster GTS is pretty fast, considering it weighs nearly 3,000lbs and has a total output of 330hp. The GTS of course stands for Gran Turismo Sport, which means that its performance capabilities are undoubtedly excellent. With a top speed that can go for up to 173mph and acceleration from zero to 62mph in 4.7 seconds, it is no wonder that granny was able to reach those speeds that fateful evening. These numbers, by the way, are based on the technical specs from Porsche’s official website.
The sports car was launched in 2014 with an estimated fuel consumption of 19 miles per gallon (for city driving with the manual) and 22 mpg for the PDK. Estimated highway consumption is at 26mpg and 31 mpg both for manual and PDK respectively.
Further, the GTS, as with all Boxsters, shares the same enjoyably accurate steering that provides exceptional feedback. From the way it is built, the GTS comes with very solid structure that doesn’t seem to shake or be bothered by much, making it one of the best sports cars to use for your daily drive.
With pricing pegged at $74,600 MSRP for the manual and $77,460 MSRP for the PDK version, the Boxster GTS is a purist’s dream car that doesn’t make compromises when the driver wants to experience pure driving pleasure. Too bad, granny was so engulfed by her emotions that she didn’t mind her speedometer.
