The Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster is very powerful and very fast. The alloy 6.5 litre V12 engine pumps out 700 hp @ 5,500 rpm and catapults from 0-62 mph in just 3 seconds. It’s one of the world’s fastest roadsters with a top speed in the 217 mph range. It’s endowed with the patented “Stop/Start” system with supercaps and the new CDS Cylinder Deactivation System. The lightweight monocoque construction has a Formula 1 race-car inspired pushrod suspension. It is equipped as its sister model the Aventador LP 700-4 coupe. Both are considered superlatives in the industry. The automated seven-speed ISR transmission with independent shifting rods gives the fastest possible shift time of 50 milliseconds. This transmission combined with the pushrod suspension adds precision race-track performance.

The Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster has a newly developed two-piece carbon-fibre roof. It’s a rolling masterpiece of Lamborghini’s carbon-fibre technology. It features RTM-Lambo and Forged Composite components throughout its design. This lightweight material reduces overall unsprung weight and is much stronger than conventional steel. The Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster was built to be a roadster. The engineers at Sant’ Agata Bolognese lowered the car’s center of gravity to optimize its road-hugging stability at high speeds, especially during cornering. The bodywork uses an anti-roll over system for safety. It looks exactly like an open roof version of the Aventador hardtop coupe. Its doors also, open upwards. When there is a need for engine cooling, auxiliary air vents open automatically located above the rear wheels. The roadster uses a different engine cover than its sister hardtop. It is a back-bone flanked on each end side by a pair of hexagonally shaped panels that resemble high-tech armor plating. This set-up protects the V12 while allowing the world to savor the beauty.

The Aventador Roadster offers a comprehensive and individualistic technology with equipment packages in their latest form. Through Ad Personam, the owner could choose from a wide range of interior and exterior variants to make the Aventador Roadster totally unique. A new two-toned paint scheme adorns the architecture. The front windscreen frame and the area in back around the window extending to the rear fins are finished in a high-gloss black. A new metallic finish called “Azzurro Thetys”, an azure-blue that is a standox color with iridescence depending upon the lighting. This color dates back to the highly successful Lamborghini Miura Roadster from 1968. The iridescence accentuates the Aventador Roadster’s sculpted beauty of its flowing lines in the architecture.

The legendary V12 engine is a technological dream. The crankcase is constructed featuring steel cylinder liners. The bore is 95.0 millimeters while stroke being 76.4 millimeters, this short-stroke makes the engine rev higher with lower internal friction. It has a specially forged and nitride-hardened crankshaft for durability. Internal components failing at 200+ mph is a no-no right? The Lamborghini Start/Stop System uses energy from supercaps for the restart after a stopping phase such as a red light.

It also uses Lamborghini’s CDS, Cylinder Deactivation System where under certain low load and low speeds it allows one cylinder bank to deactivate making the engine run as an in-line six cylinder. The slightest tap to the accelerator restores all twelve cylinders instantly and imperceptibly. The Stop/Start function and CDS reacts so quickly and seamlessly that their presence isn’t even detected. The systems also aid in reduced fuel consumption and reduced emissions.

The Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster has a tuned exhaust system. The hydro formed and temperature insulated three-in-one system uses four first stage catalytic converters close to the engine and two main catalytic converters just before the muffler. Inside its casing are two more separate mufflers one low volume and one high volume operated via flaps controlled by the engine management system. The formidable V12 delivers a throaty-growl at low revs and per Lamborghini, “emits a screaming crescendo at full tilt.”

The patented permanent all-wheel drive system by Lamborghini powers the roadster. An electronic clutch distributes driving force between the front and rear axle in milliseconds. All-wheel drive affords traction and stability on any road condition. Each wheel and its damper acts independently with the braking system along with the clutch dividing the torque-thrust to each wheel. This also aids tremendously with cornering stability. The rear axle is self-locking.

The Aventador Roadster benefits from a Lamborghini-designed electrical system. It consists of a main ECU, secondary “smart-actuators” and two smart sensors. The smart actuators make the ECU faster, monitoring combustion in real-time, each ignition in every cylinder. An individual coil powers the spark plugs where the coils function as sensors monitoring and processing the engine’s combustion. All data is used to optimize engine management with both fuel economy and performance. Two auxiliary control units monitor the power signal after every ignition and immediately identifies any irregularities in the combustion process through ionization.

The Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster can be built to suit the taste of its owner through the Lamborghini Ad Personam program. This makes each Lamborghini a bespoke work of art reflecting the wishes of the owner in myriad combinations. One of the options for the roadster is the new two-tone leather upholstery “Sabbia Nefertem” made in the Sant’ Agata Bolognese leather shop. It is the perfect contrast to the Azzurro Thetys exterior color.
