Volkswagen Has Unveiled 5 More Or Less Cool Concept Cars At Savannah Car Meet

Savannah (USA), May 22nd 2017
From May 24th until may 27th, Volkswagen hosts the GTI meet at the Wörthersee in Germany, a well-known event for all Volkswagen (and other Volkswagen group brands) enthusiasts. However, one week earlier, they also hosted the US version of the meet in Savannah, Georgia. Officially, the meet is called ‘SoWo: The European Experience’, so it’s a car show for all euro fans. However, SoWo actually stands for ‘Southern Worthersee’ (because Americans don’t like Ö’s). Volkswagen decided to use this show to restore their image, with 5 more or less mind-blowing concept cars.

#1: Volkswagen Beetle Post Concept

So, let’s take a look at what Volkswagen has come up with. First up, we’ve got the Beetle Post Concept. It’s a hommage to BMX-champion Alise Post, and so two BMX bikes can be mounted on the roof of the Beetle R-Line. The front wheels of the bikes can be stored in the trunk. The car also comes with H&R coilovers, 19” rims by Radi8, and with an exclusive paintjob called ‘Habanero Orange’.

#2: Volkswagen Golf GTI RS Concept

Probably the most incredible concept car is the Golf GTI RS Concept. It was created by Sam Dobbins, the creative director of Vossen Wheels. Thanks to a Rocket Bunny body kit, Vossen rims, Porsche-inspired GTI RS logo and a Thule roof box, this Golf takes street cred to the max. The interior was also completely stripped out and fitted with a roll cage.

#3: Volkswagen Jetta GLi Nardo Concept

Whilst the Jetta is very unpopular in Germany (we all drive Passats or Golfs), ‘Murica seems to love it - and so Volkswagen has created this concept. The color is called ‘Nardo Grey’ - and it’s from Audi. In addition, the Jetta comes with asphalt-colored HRE rims, BF Goodrich tires and again H&R coilovers.

#4: Volkswagen Golf R Heritage Concept

The Golf R Heritage is a hommage to good old Germany. It comes with - you guessed it - H&R coilovers and Vossen rims, as well as a black paintjob and racing stripes. However, Volkswagen screwed them up: They were designed to match the overall German theme, and I as a German can say for sure that the German flag does NOT include orange. (In case you live behind the moon: German flag is black-red-gold).

#5: Volkswagen Alltrack Country Concept

When Volkswagen launched the quirky Golf Country in 1990, it wasn’t a great success. Today, the car is basically unknown in the US, and so Volkswagen has created a new one, based on the current Golf Alltrack. It was lifted by 5cm / 2” and rolls on 15” off-road tires. The front is equipped with extra fog lights, and the rear is fitted with a mountain bike rack. And to make it even more extreme, it also comes with a roof tent, solar panels, LED light bars and a solar powered shower. In the spare tire hold sits an entertainment system (WTF?!) which is powered by three batteries below the boot flooring which are also charged by the solar panel. And of course we have to mention that fancy fancy paintjob.
Take a look at this gallery. I’ve also added two pictures of the original Golf Country at the end.
