The New 2027 Chevrolet Silverado Leaks in Its Patent Form

General Motors is likely not pleased by the appearance of the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado patent images filed with the U.S. government as part of the truck’s homologation process. This type of leak is extremely rare in the United States, though far more common in China.

  • Chevrolet sold nearly 43,000 Silverado units in Canada between January and September 2025.
  • The design will be an evolution rather than a revolution compared to the generation launched in 2019.
  • New V8 powertrains are expected to replace the current 5.3- and 6.2-litre engines.

For every American automaker, the full-size pickup is the cornerstone of the lineup and a major profit driver. In Canada, Chevrolet Silverado sales are expected to approach 60,000 units in 2025. South of the border, the numbers are equally impressive, with close to 360,000 units sold. Considering that the U.S. population is roughly ten times larger than Canada’s, the Silverado is actually more popular on a per-capita basis north of the border.

The current generation was introduced in 2019 and refreshed in 2022. With an all-new generation arriving for 2027, GM aims to strengthen its position in the segment, particularly with the anticipated introduction of new V8 engines. From a styling standpoint, however, the Silverado will be more evolutionary than revolutionary. It remains instantly recognizable.

A Highly Evolutionary Design

According to Car & Driver, the new 2027 Silverado design is credited to Tyler Moffett, a designer known for his work on several Chevrolet products, including the Colorado, Traverse, Tahoe/Suburban and Blazer. He is therefore deeply rooted in Chevrolet’s design language. Unsurprisingly, the Silverado retains the brand’s signature split-headlamp layout. The patent images reveal a grille featuring a fine mesh pattern combined with horizontal bars.

The front bumper also evolves slightly, with a raised central section similar to the current model. The hood keeps its twin power domes, but they are more pronounced with this new generation. A central air intake has been added to improve engine cooling and fuel efficiency, further contributing to the truck’s imposing front-end presence.

In profile, the body panels remain sculpted to give the truck a strong stance. Once again, the changes are evolutionary, notably with the character line that drops behind the front wheel. At the rear, the CHEVROLET lettering has been removed from the tailgate, leaving only the Chevrolet bowtie emblem. The taillight shape is familiar, though the upper section now extends further forward. As has been the case for several years, integrated corner steps remain at the edges of the rear bumper for easier access.

What About the Powertrains?

There are no images of the interior and no official confirmation regarding powertrain options. That said, GM is known to be working on new V8 engines, which are expected to replace the long-serving 5.3- and 6.2-litre units. Currently, those engines produce 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque, and 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, respectively. It is reasonable to assume that GM will introduce more powerful and more fuel-efficient replacements. There is, however, no indication yet as to whether any form of hybridization will be offered.

As for the rest of the lineup, it remains unclear whether GM will introduce a V6 option. The relatively new 2.7-litre turbocharged four-cylinder is likely to remain, as is the 3.0-litre turbo-diesel inline-six. When it comes to transmissions, the 10-speed automatic should once again be part of the equation.

For now, GM has not confirmed when the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado will be officially unveiled.
