2018 SEMA Show: This Hellephant 426 is 1,000-hp Supercharged Mopar Crate Hemi engine

Mopar just brought a mammoth at the 2018 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mopar is introducing a new crate engine that is like an elephant from hell. Dubbed as the “Hellephant” 426 Supercharged Mopar Crate Hemi engine, this new powerplant isn't just massive in size, but also in performance.
Hellephant is essentially a brand-new HEMI-engine that borrows its name from the massive land mammal – because of its large size as well as its ability to deliver huge power figures. As Mopar disclosed, the Hellephant 426 Supercharged Mopar Crate HEMI engine can deliver up to 1,000 hp of humongous output and up to 950 lb.-ft. of torque. This new Hellephant engine is the first 1,000-hp crate engine kit ever offered by an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).
To achieve 1,000 hp of output, the Hellephant 426 Supercharged Mopar Crate HEMI engine is developed to be much larger that your usual HEMI engine. In fact, it boasts of 4.0 inches of stroke and bore specs at 4.125 inches. The Hellephant engine features an all-aluminum block, which made it much lighter than other engines of its size.
Its all-aluminum block is the same as the ones employed in Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak race cars vehicles that ruled the NHRA Factory Stock Showdown class this year. This means that the Hellephant was derived from motorsports world and reengineered for use on the streets. To further hike the power output of the Hellephant, a much-improved supercharger with a high-efficiency rotor was also mounted on its all-aluminum block.
The complete Hellephant engine assembly includes supercharger with throttle body, fuel injectors, a water pump, flywheel, coil packs and front sump oil pan. In addition, the new Hellephant engine includes valve covers from the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye as well as valves, valve train, locks and retainers from the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. Moreover, the build features a special high-lift cam and custom-forged pistons.
Clients purchasing the new Hellephant 426 Supercharged Mopar Crate Hemi engine can also avail of a new corresponding kit, which includes a powertrain control module (PCM), power distribution center, chassis harness, engine wiring harness and accelerator pedal, as well as ground jumper, oxygen sensors and charge air temperature sensors. Also included are fuel pump control module and cam bus interface device.
Also offered along with Hellephant engine is the Front End Accessory Drive (FEAD) Kit that includes accessory hardware components that could help in installing the Hellephant. This FEAD kit includes an alternator, belts, pulleys, power-steering pump and more.
The Hellephant 426 Supercharged Mopar Crate HEMI engine and kit can be installed in simple plug-and-play by experienced installers on pre-1976 street and off-road vehicles. At the 2018 SEMA Show, the Hellephant was installed in a De Grigio-wrapped 1968 Dodge Super Charger Concept, as mated to a stock T-6060 manual six-speed Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat transmission.
