Nissan to unveil facelifted 2019 Maxima at 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show

Japanese carmaker Nissan will be unveiling the facelifted 2019 Nissan Maxima at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show 2018. The latest iteration of Nissan’s flagship sedan will not just don a new look, as it will also offer new technologies when goes on sale in December this year.

In a short press release, Nissan said the 2019 Maxima will be available with the Nissan Safety Shield 360 technology, which is essentially a suite of six advanced safety and driver-assist technologies. Featuring front, side and rear sensing technologies, the Nissan Safety Shield 360 will be standard on SV and SL grades of the 2019 Nissan Rogue, 2019 Nissan Rogue Sport and the 2019 Nissan Altima.

To be offered as an option on the 2019 Maxima, the Nissan Safety Shield 360 includes Intelligent Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection that can monitor vehicles and pedestrians with a forward-facing radar and camera system. When it detects such objects, this technology will provide audible and visual warning. It would also apply brakes to prevent a collision

The Nissan Safety Shield 360 also includes Lane Departure Warning that provides visual and audible warning when the car stays away from its lane, as well as High Beam Assist that can automatically switch from low beams to high beams when it detect an oncoming vehicle. The Nissan Safety Shield 360 also includes Blind Spot Warning that can monitor the blind side of the driver, as well as Rear Cross Traffic Alert that can warn the driver over oncoming traffic or obstacles when reversing. Also featured is the Rear Intelligent Emergency Braking that can apply the brakes to prevent a collision when the Maxima is reversing.

Nissan introduced the current generation of the Maxima flagship sedan during the 2016 model year. Compared to the previous generation, the current-gen Maxima received a prominent V-shaped grille and a floating roof.

In the 2017 model year, the Japanese carmaker provided fitted the Maxima Apple CarPlay function and introduced options like the Medallion Package and the Dynamic Package. Meanwhile, the current Maxima (2018 model year) is provided with standard features like Android Auto, a pair of USB ports, an automatic emergency braking.

The 2018 Maxima is powered by a 3.5 liter V6 that delivers up to 300 hp (224 kW) of output, with power sent to the front wheels via a CVT. It is likely that the 2019 model will retain this powertrain.
