Lightweight and performance-focused Porsche 718 Cayman T might be on its way soon

After VIN registrations revealed months ago that Porsche was planning a new 718 Cayman T, new details have surfaced that about the hardcore model. According to a report by Auto Express, the German sports carmaker has almost completed the new lightweight Porsche 718 Cayman T and is now putting the finishing touches on this new hardcore model.
As reported by Auto Express, the new Porsche 718 Cayman T will served as a follow-up to the recently released 911 T as its smaller sibling. The new 718 Cayman T will be much lighter than the 718 Cayman, as made possible by employing a number of weight saving features like thinner glass, fabric door pulls and sports seats. In addition, the 718 Cayman T has seen its audio system removed from its cabin.
Overall, the 718 Cayman T would be around 20 kg lighter – in terms of kerbweight -- than the 718 Cayman. The VIN listings uncovered in July show that the 718 Cayman T will have a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 3,649 lbs(1,655 kg), which is lighter than a manual-transmission Cayman S (3,670 lbs or 1,665 kg).
Auto Express said the new Porsche 718 Cayman T will be fitted, as standard, with an array of most popular parts and components from the German sports car maker, including 20-inch alloy wheels and a sports exhaust. The sport chrono package will also be included, helping lower the ride height of the 718 Cayman T by 10 mm.
With its impending arrival, the new Porsche 718 Cayman T will be an alternative for customers seeking a more hardcore and more focused driving experience without having to purchase the GT versions, which usually come at a high price. VIN registrations didn’t indicate how much power would the 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-four engine in the new 718 Cayman T would be able to deliver. This is the same engine found in the based 718 Cayman, but since the 718 Cayman T is a more hardcore version, this mill is expected to provide more power. The 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-four engine in the 718 Cayman T might be tuned to deliver up to 360 hp of output.
To be slotted between the Porsche 718 Cayman S and 718 Cayman GTS, the new 718 Cayman T will be made available in the United Kingdom next spring. It will also be sold in the United States. Porsche hasn’t disclosed the price of the 718 Cayman T, but it should be between that of the 718 Cayman S ($67,700) and the 718 Cayman GTS ($80,700).
A T model may mean that current generation of the 718 Cayman would soon end, and new generation of sports cars would come soon, probably in 2020.
