2019 Skoda Octavia G-TEC (CNG) has more power and longer range than predecessor

Czech carmaker is making fans of its CNG-powered (compressed natural gas)  Skoda fall in love all over again by making the latest iteration of the Octavia G-TEC more powerful and travel farther than before.
Part of its range of eco-friendly CNG vehicles, the new 2019 Skoda Octavia G-TEC has gotten rid of the old 1.4-liter TSI engine. Instead, the latest iteration of the Octavia G-TEC will be powered by the Volkswagen Group’s new 1.5-liter TSI engine. This new mill with the larger capacity can deliver 96 kW (130 PS) of max output, making the new Octavia G-TEC around 15 kW (20 PS) more powerful than the previous model. Moreover, the 1.5-liter TSI engine is designed to be efficient, as made possible by the variable intake valve timing with Miller cycle operation.
When the 2019 Skoda Octavia G-TEC goes into CNG mode, its carbon dioxide emissions levels drops by 25 percent compared when in petrol mode. In addition, a CNG-powered Octavia G-TEC emits lower levels of nitrogen oxide (NOx) with zero particulate emissions. This allows the new Octavia G-TEC to be compliant with EU6d-TEMP emissions standard.
Skoda installed three CNG tanks in the 2019 Octavia G-TEC. One of these is made from steel, as positioned in front of the rear axle. The two other tanks are made from a new lightweight composite material, as located under the cargo compartment of Octavia G-TEC. In total, these three tanks can hold up to 17.7 kg of CNG, for a total range of around 480 km. This assumes that the new Octavia G-TEC operates on CNG alone.
The new 2019 Skoda Octavia G-TEC is also fitted with a fourth tank, but this container contains petrol instead of CNG. Overall, the petrol tank can carry up to 11.8 liters when fully filled. However, the Octavia G-TEC won't kick into petrol mode unless it uses up all its fill of CNG. Once the car detects that its CNG tanks have been emptied, it will automatically switch to petrol mode. With 11.8 liters of petrol in tow, the Octavia G-TEC can safely have a trip into locations where CNG filling stations are rare, ensuring that the vehicle can still move even when it runs of CNG.
Since the previous iteration of the Skoda Octavia G-TEC boasted of a combined range (CNG plus petrol) of 1,330 km (826 miles), the 2019 model should be able to travel farther.
For those who wanted to purchase the new 2019 Skoda Octavia G-TEC 1.5 TSI, keep in mind that this CNG wonder is only available in wagon body style (COMBI). In addition, the new Octavia G-TEC 1.5 TSI can be availed with the Active, Ambition and Style equipment lines. Power is sent to the wheels through a seven-speed DSG transmission.

ECO-FRIENDLY ALTERNATIVE: Å KODA OCTAVIA G-TEC NOW WITH SIGNIFICANTLY MORE POWER AND INCREASED CNG RANGE

New 1.5 TSI engine now with even more advanced optimisation for running on eco friendly CNG (compressed natural gas)
› Considerably increased output of 96 kW (130 PS) with low NOx and CO2 emissions
› Three CNG tanks with greater capacity for a range of up to 480 kilometres in CNG mode
Mladá Boleslav, 21 September 2018 – Å KODA is upgrading its range of eco-friendly CNG vehicles. The Å KODA OCTAVIA G-TEC now boasts a new, more powerful 1.5 TSI engine with an output of 96 kW (130 PS). Exclusively available with a COMBI body and the Active, Ambition or Style equipment lines, the Å KODA OCTAVIA G-TEC achieves a range of 480 kilometres in its more eco-friendly pure CNG mode. This is based on three tanks holding a total of 17.7 kilograms of CNG. An additional 11.8-litre petrol tank safeguards mobility in regions without CNG filling stations.
The new 1.5-litre engine in the Å KODA OCTAVIA G-TEC has an output of 96 kW (130 PS) – 15 kW (20 PS) more than its predecessor. Thanks to variable intake valve timing with Miller cycle operation, it is also very efficient. In CNG mode, CO2 emissions are reduced even further, by around 25 per cent compared to petrol, with considerably lower nitrogen oxide (NOx) output and no particulate emissions. As a result, the Å KODA OCTAVIA G TEC complies with EU6d-TEMP, the most stringent current emissions standard, making it an eco-friendly alternative to cars running on conventional fuels.
Natural gas as an eco-friendly bridging technology
Compressed natural gas (CNG) has a higher energy content than petrol or diesel. It is cheaper and burns more cleanly and silently. Using biogas from wastewater or agricultural production or synthetic gas instead of CNG achieves an even more favourable environmental footprint. Further improvements can be made when power from renewable sources is used in gas production. Natural gas thus acts as a bridge between fossil fuels and electric mobility. Moreover, a vehicle running on CNG is as quick and easy to refuel as a petrol or diesel model.
480-kilometre range in pure CNG mode
The three CNG tanks in the Å KODA OCTAVIA G-TEC have a total capacity of 17.7 kilograms. The tank positioned in front of the rear axle is made of steel. The other two tanks, situated under the luggage compartment, are fashioned from a new composite material that combines ultimate safety with low weight. When operated on CNG alone, the OCTAVIA G-TEC can cover a range of around 480 kilometres. Should the CNG supply run out, the car will automatically switch to petrol mode, using 11.8 litres of petrol carried in an additional tank.
The Å KODA OCTAVIA G-TEC 1.5 TSI is available with the Active, Ambition and Style equipment lines, in COMBI format only, and comes with a seven-speed DSG transmission. The Å KODA Connect online services for the G-TEC also include the Emergency Call and Care Connect. The Å KODA Connect app, for example, shows the driver the remaining CNG, petrol and overall range
