BMW M8 Competition is rumored to arrive after launch of BMW M8

BMW calls the new 8 Series Coupe as the redefinition of the sports car. A more powerful performance version is expected to follow soon in the persona of the BMW M8. But if you think the M8 isn't sporty and hot enough to suit your exacting preferences, you can rely on this rumor mill: a much hotter BMW M8 Competition is on the radar.

The BMW M8 Competition rumor came to life following a closed BMW event in Paris, as attended only by selected VIP customers. This event was meant to provide these VIP customers a glimpse of upcoming models. Expectedly, no one was allowed to use their cell phones, as BMW wouldn’t want the images or slides shared during the event to spread publicly. Nonetheless, one of the attendees was able to relate his experience during the event to BMW Blog.

As reported by BMW Blog, the VIP attendee revealed that BMW M is planning to create a Competition package for the BMW M8. This revelation, however, wasn’t really surprising considering the fact that BMW M also created the BMW M5 Competition. The attendee went on to describe the looks of the upcoming M8 Competition.

For instance, the M8 Competition features a carbon fiber package that doesn’t just make the high-performance coupe looks more visually appealing but also shed some weight. As standard the BMW M8 Competition will features carbon ceramic brakes with yellow calipers.

Just as the BMW M5 Competition is more powerful than a standard M5, the rumored M8 Competition could deliver more juice than a typical M8. The 4.4-liter TwinTurbo V8 engine in the M5 can yield up to 600 hp (447 kW) and up to 553 lb.-ft. (750 Nm) of torque. In the M5 Competition, the same V8 engine is tuned to deliver 625 hp (466 kW) and same amount of torque. It is expected that this same V8 engine will be found under the hoods of the M8 and the M8 Competition, although with different power bands.

Currently, most powerful 8 Series that a customer can buy is the BMW M850i xDrive, which is also served by the same 4.4-liter V8 engine, but in less powerful guise. In the M850i xDrive, this V8 engine can provide 523 hp (390 kW) of max output and 553 lb.-ft. (750 Nm) of peak torque. This amount of power is enough to send the M850i xDrive sprinting from zero to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.6 seconds.

Further modifications that could be made to the rumored BMW M8 Competition include a lowered ride height, revised suspension for track driving, as well as modified exhaust system.
