2019 BMW M2 Competition has $58,900 starting price, sales kick off in July

Alexander Schmuck, BMW spokesperson, recently confirmed that the 2019 BMW M2 Competitionwill finally go on sale in July, with a starting price of $58,900.
BMW also revealed its options range for the brand’s newest high performance model. For instance, getting a metallic paint would cost $550, while a moonroof is priced at $1,050, and the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission will be priced at $2,900.
There will also be an M Driver’s Package for $2,500 that will boost the speed limiter to 174 miles per hour (280 kilometers per hour) from the original max speed of 155 miles per hour (249 kilometers per hour). Customers will also be required to join a one-day driving school at the BMW Performance Center. There will also be an $850 Executive Package that includes a heated steering wheel, adaptive LED headlights, automatic high beams, wireless device charging, and speed limit monitor.
It features new monoblock kidney grilles that are sharper edged, which look more aggressive and are more functional too. These provide more airflow to keep the vehicle nice and chill. Speaking of the visual upgrades, there will be a new colour, Hockenheim Silver Metallic. It also comes in Sunset Orange. The latter was already available on the other BMWs but is new to the M2.
In comparison, the M2 Competition is $4,400 more expensive than the regular M2 at $58,900. But the additional performance might make the higher price worthwhile.
The new model is equipped with a 3.0 liter biturbo inline-six engine like that in the M3 and M4, allowing it to produce 405 horsepower (302 kilowatts) and 406 pound feet (551 Newton metres) of torque in this application. That’s 40 horsepower (30 kilowatts) and 63 pound-feet (85 Newton metres) over the outgoing M2. This engine is paired to a six speed manual gearbox, and like all models, it gets an electronically controlled limited slip differential.
This November, when the 2019 BMW M2 Competition becomes available, Europeans will be able to pick from a range of M Performance parts, many of which will shave weight off the M2. Some of these include a carbon fiber roof, hood, and truck lid that will shed 44 pounds (20 kilograms) all together.
This model will also sit on 19 inch forged wheels that will cut down 7 pounds (3.2 kilos). The titanium will also cut down 18 pounds (8 kilos). Moreover, customers could also choose to get upgraded brakes, and an 0.8 inch (20 millimeter) lower suspension. As of now, it isn’t confirmed yet if any of these items will be offered to United States customers.
