X-Tomi’s rendering of Mercedes-Benz A-Class Wagon is a stylish Shooting Brake
Mercedes-Benz has published images of the new A-Class hatchback and sedan models, together with spy shots of the B-Class, CLA, GLA and the GLB. But one thing we have not seen yet is the CLA Shooting Brake. While we’ve heard rumours that the swoopy wagon won’t be renewed, we think that the opposite is true.
In January 2017, Autocar heard from Mercedes’ sales and marketing boss, Britta Seeger, that the wagon will be getting a second generation version. There has been no retraction so we take that as a signal that we will soon see a new generation of the CLA SB. Nevertheless, we regret to say that the larger model, the CLS Shooting Brake, has been terminated due to low demand.
It is true that a lot of people have a thing for wagons, but the number of people who are shifting to crossovers and SUVs are significantly more, and really, automakers will just have to head towards the direction where their business will flourish. This is also why we should be glad that Mercedes-Benz is still giving the CLA Shooting Brake a second generation model.
As for the rendering here, X-Tomi Design showed us their personal take on the family oriented model, with the A-Class wagon described as a “demotion.” However, the chances of this turning into an actual production model are slim so don’t get your hopes up.
Mercedes-Benz has already confirmed that their lineup for compact cars will consist of eight models. These include the A-Class hatchback, A-Class sedan (plus the Chinese long wheelbase model), B-Class minivan, GLA crossover, as well as the G-Class inspired GLB boxy crossover that will be positioned above the GLA.
If the Shooting Brake variant survives in the market, that will bring the grand total to just six cars, and two other models will be in the pipeline. Right now, we are not aware of the identities of these models, but it is unlikely that there will be a second wagon to accompany the Shooting Brake.
The rendering artist is probably betting on this A Class wagon as a cheaper and more practical alternative to the CLA-badged model. What more if this A Class wagon was given the full AMG treatment? That would be a more compelling argument not only to Mercedes Benz, but also to enthusiasts everywhere.
Interestingly, Mercedes Benz CLA-Class, as well as the 2019 Mercedes B-Class, has been spotted around as they undergo tests.
