This V8 BMW E36 Camper Is Absurd On Every Level, And We Love It

With DIY campervan bodywork and the V8 from a Chevrolet Suburban, this mad E36 is the perfect 24 Hours of LeMons ride, isn't it?

If you find motorsport a little too serious, you might like the sound of the 24 Hours of LeMons. It’s an endurance racing series held primarily in the USA (although the concept has expanded to Australia and New Zealand), where the budgets are deliberately tiny and ridiculous rides are a must.
How ridiculous? Well, take this E36 BMW 3-series as a prime example. Detailed in the latest episode of TheHoonigans’ Build Breakdown series, the car was bought for just $500. It didn’t have a powertrain, but that was quickly solved by dropping in the V8 from a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban.
DIY campervan-style bodywork (now a little battered thanks to an accidental wall tap at the 19:40 mark…) was added, along with brilliantly silly details like ‘Dodge’ lettering on the bonnet. It’s going to be quite a majestic sight to behold on track, we think.
