The New BMW 8-Series Will Make Its Grand Debut At Le Mans

BMW has announced that it'll reveal the new 8-series on 15 June at the 24 Hours of Le Mans

A new BMW 8-series is coming, and while Gorgeous concepts and shots of disguised prototypes are all well and good, you’re all itching to see the real deal, aren’t you? Thankfully, we don’t have long to wait: BMW has just announced that its all-new coupe will be revealed on 15 June at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where the firm’s M8 GTE racing car will be taking on the famous endurance race.
We’ve also been treated to a new teaser image of the 8-series, which shows it lurking in the shadows behind the GTE version. Zoom in and brighten it up a bit, and this is what you get:

Looks promising, no? And from what we can see, it’s not much of a departure from the striking 8-series concept revealed last year.
The first version we’ll see will be the M850i xDrive Coupe, powered by the 523bhp 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 also found in the 7-series, with which the 8-series shares its platform. We can expect other 7-series engines to make an appearance, meaning six-cylinder petrol and diesel versions should eventually be available, and possibly one powered by the M760Li’s 6.6-litre twin-turbo V12.
At the pointy end of the range will be an M8, expected to use the same 592bhp V8 found in the M5 to scramble your internal organs and terrify passengers with every prod of the throttle.
