2018 GMC Sierra All Mountain Concept climbs Vail ski mountain for winter season debut

The 2018 GMC Sierra 2500HD has arrived this week at the snowy mountains in Colorado for its winter long debut. GMC’s tracked Sierra Mountain Concept will be on display at the popular ski destination for the entire season in an effort to provide its audiences a better idea of what the off-roader has in store particularly when having to get through the icy cold mountain.

To get down to the nitty gritty of the concept, GMC has equipped the rig of the Sierra 2500HD with a set of Mattracks 150 Series. The tracks have been painted in GMC red to ensure it will be as attractive as the pickup’s body side graphics and other mountain-themed accessories. When viewing the vehicle at the front, you will notice the All-Mountain Concept is highlighted by the RIGID E-Series 30-inch light bar which is cleverly placed above the winch enough to conceal it. Likewise, a soft rollup tonneu by Advantage is placed at the back to cover the truck’s rear bed.

To conquer the snowy trails, the upgraded Denali 4WD Crew Cab has been equipped with several other accessories -- from Thule snowboard racks down to wheel well and underbody lights in LED. Even its passengers will find comfort with the cabin’s leather upholstery and cozy Bose stereo sound system when stuck in the cold. For sure, GMC has dressed up its pickup truck right for the season.

This is also probably what GMC’s exterior designer Carl Zipfel had in mind when he designed the Sierra All Mountain concept. In a statement, Zipfel explained the Mattracks technology’s ability “to conquer unchartered territory” while highlighting the off-road truck’s premium interior features. It is, after all, his duty to make sure the concept has taken GMC’s signature design to a whole different level.

What’s even more impressive is the Sierra’s 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8 engine which is capable of producing up to 445hp (332 kW) and which has a massive amount of torque output of 910lb-ft (1,234Nm). When paired to the Allison 1000 six speed automatic transmission, it’s the same as the 6.6-liter turbo diesel V8 on both Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra that debuted earlier this year. Further, the new powerplant has about 35% lower emissions while nearly 90% of its parts are totally new compared to the previous year model.

Impressed already? You can catch the Sierra All Mountain Concept in action at the Colorado mountains for the holidays but those who couldn’t make it to Vail may still get the chance to see it up close at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show from December 1 to 10. As of today, the GMC Sierra is on display at the skier’s destination as part of GMC’s exclusive partnerships with Vail Valley Foundation and Vail Resorts Incorporated.

The 2018 GMC Sierra 2500HD All Mountain concept, a one-of-a-kind snow-climbing machine, will debut this week at Vail Mountain. The GMC Sierra All Mountain will remain on display at Vail for the winter season as part of an exclusive partnership announced earlier this year with Vail Resorts, Inc. (NYSE: MTN), the leading global mountain resort company.
