G-Power tunes BMW M550d’s engine for extra horsepower and torque

G-Power is known as one of the few BMW-tuning specialists, and they now have fresh upgrades for the newest 5 Series that is already quite powerful to begin with. What the tuner did was that they installed an additional engine control module that lets the car access more power from its engine.
Specially made for BMW’s 3.0 liter inline six diesel engine, the D-Tronik 5 V1 can help give it a major upgrade in output. To be more specific, when the M550d xDrive is tuned, it gets 59 horsepower (44 kilowatts) more than the stock model, adding up to 453 horsepower (338 kilowatts), and 74 pound-feet (100 Newton metres) more torque, totaling with 634 pound-feet (860 Newton metres). Similarly, the 540d can be maximized to 380 horsepower (283 kilowatts) and 553 pound-feet (750 Nm) of torque after the upgrade, compared to the standard version which only had an output of 315 horsepower (235 kilowatts) and 502 pound-feet (680 Nm).
That’s not all though, there is also the Bi-Tronik 5 V1, but this time, it is for the 3.0 liter inline six gasoline fueled mill. It can push the 540i to 394 horsepower (294 kilowatts), that is 59 horsepower (44 kilowatts) more, as for the torque, it goes up by 66 pound feet (90 Nm), now hitting 398 pound-feet (540 Newton metres).
Both modules can be had for the same price of 2,318.32 euros ($2,730). When getting these, the tuner will retain original BMW diagnostics and engine protections. The modules will not fully work until the oil reaches the right operating temperature. And when it gets too hot, the system will cut back some of the power.
With all that upgraded power, would you not want to upgrade the look of your 5 Series too? If you do, G-Power can upgrade the sedan’s look by giving it a new set of wheels they call the Hurricane RR. Its design features five sets of double spokes that can be had in multiple finishes. Customers can either go for a 20-inch set or larger 21-inch wheels. As for the width, the front wheels are nine inches wide, while rear ones are a little wider at 10.5 inches, no matter which diameter you go for. The smaller set of wheels costs 6,680.67 euros ($7,868), while the larger set naturally costs more at 7,647.06 euros ($9,006).
G-Power did not mention how much both the D-Tronik 5 V1 and the Bi-Tronik 5 V1 for the BMW M550d would cost, but it will probably not be cheap considering that it will add a lot power to an already powerful car.

While G-POWER’s reputation as a premier BMW M car tuner stretches back more than 35 years, their engineers are also adept at increasing the power of BMW’s mainstream engines. The current BMW 5 Series
(G30 / G31) range is thus prime candidate for their art.

The proven G-POWER Bi-Tronik 5 V1 module is the key to extracting peak performance from the 3.0 litre TwinPower Turbo straight six petrol engine that powers the 540i. Forced aspiration provides the standard engine with a healthy 340 hp (250 kW), and 450 Nm of torque. The G-POWER conversion boosts this to 400 hp (294 kW), along with 540 Nm of torque.
The D-Tronik 5 V1 works particularly well with the two most potent 3.0 litre turbo diesel straight six engines that power the M550d and the 540d, taking their performance to even greater heights.
The G-POWER conversion ramps the M550d’s standard output of 400 hp (294 kW) and 760 Nm of torque to 460hp (338 kW), with a stump pulling 860 Nm. Meanwhile, the 540d sees an increases in its output from 320 hp (235 kW) to 385 hp (283 kW), with peak torque up from 680 Nm to 750 Nm. Versions of the D-Tronik 5 V1 module are also available for the 530d, as well as the four-cylinder 520d and 525d models.
To ensure that engine reliability and longevity remain uncompromised, G-POWER retains all the factory diagnostic and engine protection functions. In addition, the extra power is locked out after a cold start until the safe operating oil temperature as specified by BMW is reached. At the other end of the scale, power is automatically reduced when the water or oil temperatures reach their pre-set limits.
To improve both looks and handling, G-POWER offer 5-Series owners their bespoke HURRICANE RR ultra-light forged alloy wheels in two different sizes: 9.0 and 10.5x20-inch, with 245/35R20 and 285/30R20 tyres, or 9.0 and 10.5x21-inch, with 255/30R21 and 295/25R21 tyres.
