Reignite your passion for Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R with Nismo’s heritage spare parts program

Thought you can never make that old car look and perform as good as new again? Well, that won’t be the case soon enough because at last, you can now restore your aging, three-decade-old Nissan Skyline.

NISMO, Nissan’s performance division has just announced that it will start producing some new replacement parts for the R32 GT-R as part of the company’s heritage program. At least 80 original R32 Skyline GT-R replacement parts will be available and will go on sale beginning December 1st. The program as we know is a joint initiative between Nissan, Autech Japan, Nissan Motor Sports and several other original parts supplier.

The full catalogue was officially revealed on the weekend at the Fuji Speedway during the Nismo Festival which happens every year. According to Nissan, it nearly has everything from brand new emblem replacements all the way to new hoses and spanking new bumpers. It can be recalled that Mazda has also made a similar announcement earlier this year after it said it will be restoring the first generation of Miatas.

But such good news isn’t something that has not been done by other automakers. Besides the two, a few other manufacturers have already been offering similar restoration programs like Porsche, Mercedes- Benz and BMW. While Nissan’s Skyline R32 first came into production in 1989 with a stint that spanned all the way to 1995, the beloved GT3-spec’d sports car has always had a special spot in the hearts of many car enthusiasts.

Nismo’s Heritage product line may just be the start of a much bigger project as Nissan wishes to extend the reproduction of spare parts to some of its old models with similar historical significance. Putting the R32 Skyline on the program’s initial production run is certainly a good choice, given the supercar’s championship records as well as for having been recently recognized as the best race car of all time by Nissan’s racing division.

The R32 has not only won in all the Japanese Touring Car championship races between 1990 to 1993 but has also had its share of other victories in between those years; twice at the Australian Touring Car Championships in 1991 and 1992 and another at the Spa 24 in 1991. If the R32 spare parts reproduction proves to be a success, we can expect a wider product range catering to R33 to R34 GT-4 models later on. While Nissan has yet to reveal what price comes with each spare part, still, it’s only a matter of days until the company will be ready to take orders.

NISMO Heritage program to offer parts for heritage cars in Japan

Owners of Nissan performance cars in Japan will be able to enjoy driving them longer under a program that will make new replacement parts available for some heritage models.

The parts will go on sale in Japan on Dec. 1 as part of the new NISMO Heritage program, a joint activity of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., Nissan Motor Sports International Co., Ltd., Autech Japan, Inc., and their suppliers.

As a first step, NISMO Heritage will offer parts for the R32 Skyline GT-R, which was made between August 1989 and January 1995.

The R32 earned top honors in championships and prestigious races across the globe. In Europe, it took the overall victory in the Spa 24 in 1991. It won the Australian Touring Car Championship for the first time in 1991, followed by another championship in 1992, taking Bathurst 1000 victories both years. In Japan, the R32 scored wins in every Japanese Touring Car Championship race during the 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993 seasons. The car's inclusion in the Gran Turismo video game series cemented its status as a fan favorite.

NISMO has for many years had a close relationship with Nissan Skyline GT-R owners. After studying the remanufacturing and resupplying of discontinued parts for the R32 – especially ones that are indispensable for the car to drive or to pass regular vehicle inspections in Japan – NISMO has decided to sell about 80 parts at the outset of the program. These include harnesses, hoses (tubes), emblems and other exterior components. Further consideration will be given to expanding the range of R32 parts on offer, as well as broadening the program's scope to include the R33 and R34 GT-R models.

When certain parts can't be reproduced due to operational difficulties at original suppliers, NISMO will consider methods of replacing these parts using substitute, rebuilt or overhauled products, as well as NISMO-tuned parts.

The new NISMO Heritage parts will be on display at the NISMO Festival on Nov. 26, at Fuji Speedway in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan.
