Fast & Furious 9 gets delayed, will arrive at cinemas on April 10, 2020

Fast & Furious fans will have to wait longer than anticipated before catching their favorite stars come together again in one big screen. Curiously, there were some murmurs awhile back when Michelle Rodriguez said that she will leave the franchise if the next movie fails to “show some love” for women.
But the latest update comes from the official Twitter account for the blockbuster film. It announced the new release date for the upcoming Fast & Furious. It turns out that the release date has been pushed back for yet another year. Fast and Furious 9 was initially set to hit the theaters on April 19, 2019 with the final instalment supposedly scheduled for release on April 02, 2021. However, that may no longer be the case after the recent announcement.
The reason is unclear as to why Universal/Comcast Corporation has delayed the ninth instalment but a spin-off will likely fill the gap if the new release date will no longer be reversed. If rumors are true, this spin-off will be featuring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. The main cast consisting of Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Chris Bridges and Tyrese Gibson are all expected to return for the ninth instalment. Ludacris may also be part of the cast but no announcement about the final casting has been made yet.
There has been update yet on whether the tenth and final movie will also change its course but a long gap of about 3 years in between installments isn’t unusual. This would allow the previous installment some time to run on TV networks such as Star Movies or HBO, allowing enough time until the next franchise is ready to come in theaters. It can be recalled how Furious 7 was also delayed due to the untimely death of Paul Walker back in December 2013. Sadly, Fast & Furious producer Neal Mortiz made an announcement earlier this year about ending the movie franchise after the tenth installment.
Along with this very disappointing news are some reasons for us to smile after Universal’s announcement of the new release date for Trolls 2. Universal and DreamWorks Animation has just said earlier that Trolls 2 will move to an earlier date from the previously announced April 10, 2020 to February 14th of the same year. It would be good to note that the animated movie’s first installment earned an impressive box office performance of almost $350 million both in the US and worldwide.
The eighth installment of Fast & Furious had earned $1.23 billion in gross sales (worldwide) despite the poor approval rating it received from Rotten Tomatoes of only 66 percent. In all, the franchise earned a total of $5.13 billion worldwide and $1.76 billion locally.
