GT3-specified McLaren 720S to hit the race tracks in 2019

McLaren revealed that a 720S GT3 is already underway and will in fact keep their hands very busy for the most of 2018, considering that most of the development will be taking place at the company’s new facility in Woking, England. Despite not disclosing any technical details, McLaren at least shared a couple of renderings of the 720S GTS to give everyone a glimpse of its future racecar.

We’ve noticed on the rendering that it turns out to appear more aggressive than its road going version mainly for its race-spec features. For one, the 720S GT3 now has a new pair of dive planes-- one on the left and one on the right. It also has a new vented hood at the middle plus huge new air intakes at the front end. Even the pair of side mirrors seems to have an air of aerodynamic quality into them as well.

There are several other racing characteristics which will surely not go unnoticed even if you don’t have a keen eye for detail. The digital rendering has so far provided the 720S GT3 with high mounted exhaust pipes, massive rear wing, wider doorsill plates, huge rear diffuser and wider fenders that anyway are so obvious because they are too big.

Sadly, we don’t have anything more to say except for what is apparent on this rendering. We can only guess at this point that its performance figures will match the incredible track-spec features we’ve mentioned earlier.

Knowing the street legal 720S alone is already a favorite among supercar enthusiasts, it’s not impossible for the GT3-spec’d 720S to get the thumbs up from these folks once the official figures are already out. Remember, this isn’t the first time for McLaren to offer a GT3-spec version. In the past, they have been known to develop some GT3 versions of the 650S and the MP4-12C which have all been really impressive.

For now, the street-specified 720S boasts a 4.0-liter mid-mounted biturbo V8 engine that’s capable of generating an immensely powerful 710 hp (529 kW) and 568 lb-ft ( 770 Nm) of massive torque brought by its seven-speed dual clutch transmission. Tipping the scales at only 3,128 lbs, the street legal 720S can make its way to 60 mph in as short as 2.9 seconds. But that’s not all. McLaren has just confirmed that it will come up with an even faster 720S Long Tail. Of course, we can only expect it to be more lightweight and more powerful just like the 675LT.
