New Rimac C_Two is an electric hypercar that could sprint to 60 mph in just 1.85 seconds

Tesla surprised the automotive world in November 2017 when it unveiled a new electric car that could go from zero to 60 mph in an astonishing 1.9 seconds. Now, Rimac Automobili is pulling off a better surprise by unveiling a new electric car that could achieve the sprint in an awe-inspiring 1.85 seconds. Let us all welcome the new Rimac C_Two hypercar.
Rimac unveiled this new electric hypercar creation at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, implicitly announcing itself as true challenger to Tesla. The carmaker essentially created some noise when it introduced the Rimac Concept One coupe. As per Rimac’s Web site, the Concept One boasts of 1,224 hp (918 kW) of max output and 1,600 Nm of instant torque. This power allows the Concept One to sprint from nil to 62 mph in just 2 seconds. Compared to the Tesla Roadster, the Rimac Concept One is a slow machine, but the Croatian carmaker was just getting started.
The new C_Two could be considered as the next stage of evolution for Rimac in terms of electric car development. It is superior compared to the Concept One in many aspects, including power and performance. Just like the Concept One, the C-Two makes use of four electric motors. However, the power output and torque levels of the motors in the C-Two are much higher, at 1,914 hp (1,408 kW) and 2,300 Nm, as backed by a 120-kWh capacity battery pack with 6,960 cells.
This electric powertrain sends power to the wheels through a pair of single-speed gearboxes on the front and another pair of two-speed transmission on the rear. With these specs, the C-Two could accelerate from nil to 60 mph in just 1.85 seconds and reach a top speed of 258 mph (412 km/h). Interestingly, the new C-Two has an electric range of 404 miles (650 km), as per NEDC cycle.
According to Rimac, the new C-Two offers Level 4 Autonomy, which means it could drive itself even without intervention from the driver. This is made possible by eight on-board cameras, six radar emitters, a pair of lidar, 12 ultrasonic sensors, precise global positioning system and IMU sensor. The electric hypercar also boasts of AI-enabled advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) functions like adaptive cruise control, automatic braking, blind-spot monitoring, collision risk prediction, evasive control, lane-keep assist and traffic pilot functionality.
Interestingly, the new C-Two comes with a ‘Driving Coach’ function in which the hypercar loads selected racetracks into its on-board systems and gives precise guidance on steering inputs, ideal racing lines as well as braking and acceleration points.
Featuring a carbon fiber monocoque and carbon subframe, the new C_Two is laden with a number of active aerodynamic elements like active bonnet, active rear flap and an active air-brake. It also comes with front and rear diffusers, a flat underbody as well as underbody inlets and outlets. These aids and its wind-cheating shape allow the new C-Two to have low coefficient of drag value of just 0.28 Cd. Inside, the new C-Two comes with six interface screens, including a large digital display in front of the driver as well as an infotainment display on the center console. Even the front passenger is provided with a secondary “co-driver’s display.” The cabin is wrapped in suede and carbon fiber trim.
Rimac is already accepting inquiries for the new C-Two, with plans to build just 150 examples and deliver the first units in 2020. As for the price, Rimac didn’t disclose details, but the C-Two wouldn’t be cheap.
