German residents can now return their diesel-powered BMW, free of charge

Certain cities in Germany have been pushing to ban  diesel-powered vehicles. And to help ease the fears of people who currently own diesel based engines in Germany, particularly BMW, the automaker decided to offer a helpful solution.

According to statistics, more people are getting rid of their diesel vehicles to opt for a more environmentally friendly car. And in response to this, the automaker attempted to offer their customers something they could not resist, they call this the “diesel return promise”.

Basically, owners of diesel vehicles will be able to return their diesel car to the company. This will start as early as this week in Germany. At the same time, those who lease a new diesel engined BMW may return the vehicle, if driving restrictions on diesel cars are introduced in a nearby city that’s within 62 miles of where they live.

It wasn’t so long ago when the German court announced the right to ban diesels from roads to cut down pollution. At the same time, BMW expects to have a meaningful implementation of the new regulations.

That is, the automaker expects modern diesels to be exempted from the rules, and not be affected by any restrictions. There has been some uncertainty surrounding the new rules. This has led to BMW’s decision to start the return promise. With this move, the German automaker expects to strengthen the trust of its customers, giving them the possibility of flexible vehicle switching.

That’s not all as BMW is letting customers return their diesel vehicles free of charge. How often would you hear an automaker do such thing? This simply means that the automaker truly cares about its relationship with their customers and is committed to their satisfaction.

Moreover, Peter van Binsbergen, BMW’s head of sales and marketing in Germany, said that their vehicles were designed and built for the future. The current engine installed is one of the most efficient drive systems you can find. They are also very clean thanks to the multi stage exhaust gas purification process.

Aside from having a cleaner and more advanced diesel engine, BMW announced that owners of older diesel-powered vehicles who will be affected by the new rules and restrictions will be offered what they call an “environmental bonus”. Owners of Euro 4 vehicles and older models will be given up to $2,450 towards the purchase of an i3, a plug-in hybrid, or a new Euro 6 vehicle with carbon dioxide emissions of 130 g/km or less.

Now that we know that BMW owners in Germany have nothing to worry about, we can’t help but ask what can be offered to owners of diesel powered models from another brand? Will they be as generous as BMW?
