BMW’s Subscription Service costs up to $3,700 for the M plan
One of the automakers that offer a subscription service to their clients instead of just selling them the traditional way is BMW. At the time of writing, BMW’s program “Access by BMW” is only available in Nashville, Tennessee.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with this service, it actually comes in two tiers. The first is the Legend plan, which costs $2,000 a month and provides access to the 530e xDrive, 540i, X5 xDrive35i, 440i Coupe, 440i Convertible and M2. Then there’s the more premium M plan, which costs $3,700 a month. This covers use of the M5, X5 M, X6 M, and M4 Convertible.
To sign up for the subscription service, the client will need to pay a $575 joining fee, and there is a minimum of a 32-day commitment. BMW will then handle the insurance and maintenance on the vehicles. The vehicle will be detailed before each delivery. The car comes with a full tank of fuel but the user is responsible to fill it up later on. Customers will also be able to switch between plans from month to month. It’s also possible to pause the program for an extra fee of $200.
Right now, those interested will have to wait as the program is currently limited to Nashville. BMW can deliver the vehicle to the clients in only a few hours but due to the short notice, the selection might be limited. BMW’s recommendation though is to inform them at least a few days before the vehicle is to be used. In the span of a month, clients can drive up to 2,000 miles (3,219 kilometers) while any unused distance can be brought onto the next month. If customers go over the limit, then they will be charged 50 cents per extra mile.
Apart from BMW, Porsche is also experimenting with a similar service, which they refer to as Passport. This, on the other hand, is only limited to users in Atlanta, Georgia, metropolitan area. Porsche charges $2,000 per month, which gives their clients access to eight models such as the 718 Boxster, 718 Cayman S, Macan S, and Cayenne. And if you opt for the $3,000 subscription, you can choose between 22 vehicles that include the Porsche 911 Carrera S, Panamera 4S, Macan GTS, and Cayenne S E Hybrid.
Cadillac also offers a similar service, the Book pilot program in New York. For a monthly cost of $1,500, clients have access to any model in their lineup. Meanwhile, Lincoln has its own version of the service, which allows for getting through airport security smoother.
