Watch The New Corvette ZR1 Claim An Official 212mph Top Speed

The new Corvette ZR1 is at least as fast as most supercars, according to an incredible two-run top speed test that almost hit 215mph...

It’s perfectly possible that you’ve been wondering just how fast the new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is. Today we can bring you your answer: very.
In this official company test at the massive testing oval in Papenburg, Germany, the car averaged an incredible 212mph across two runs. The heavily banked course is a different speed-testing venue to the one used by Top Gear and James May in their Bugatti Veyron film over a decade ago.
The American animal, all bonnet bulges, spoilers and flared wheel arches, is powered by a 6.2-litre supercharged LT5 V8 that prods the rear wheels with an ample 755bhp at 6300rpm and 715lb ft at 4400rpm. There’s a choice of seven-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmissions.
The speed limiter is set to 215mph because that’s the maximum the tyres can officially take. Faster is possible with enough space, says Chevrolet. Sit back and check out what those sorts of speeds look like from a camera mounted inches off the road surface. Spoiler alert: it’s pretty hypnotic.
