Ares Design Project Pony may remind you of an old-school Ferrari GTC4Lusso

After the Pantera reboot made its debut on January 31st, Ares Design announced plans to give another modern supercar a classic makeover. The revival of De Tomaso’s legendary model is based on the Lamborghini Huracan, while the Project Pony will be using the same underpinnings as that of the Ferrari GTC4Lusso. As for its bodywork, it will remind you of Maranello’s models from years before.

For Ares Design’s projects lined up for 2018, they will take inspiration from a trio of boxy grand tourers offered by Ferrari from 1972 up until 1989. These models include the 365 GT4 2+2, 400i, as well as the 412. Soon, Ferrari will bring these guys back to life in the Project Pony teased here in an official sketch. And by looking at the sketches, it seems like these models will be built with the full carbon fiber coach built body.

The Ferrari 412, the 400i, and the 365 GT4 were never the prettiest of Ferraris. And because not that many were sold, these models are now considered very rare, especially with their boxy design. In fact, they are now sought after by many car collectors.

If you are interested in the Project Panther, it will cost you 715,000 euros (around $890,000) to own one. The said model will already go into production this month. On the other hand, the old school GTC4Lusso can be had for a little less, at 700,000 euros ($870,300). Meanwhile, this model will already be available towards the end of the year.

Similar to the Ferrari GTC4Lusso, the new Project Pony will be equipped with a 6.3 liter naturally aspirated V12 engine with as much as 690 horsepower (507 kilowatts) and 697 Newton meters (514 pound feet) of torque. Aside from this, Ferrari will also be offering the GTC4Lusso T model, which is less powerful - its power comes from a 3.9 liter biturbo V8 and is a rear wheel drive instead of an all wheel drive.

If you are not familiar with Ares Design, let me give you a little background on it. Dany Bahar, the company’s founder and CEO, is also an ex-Lotus chief. Ares Design is the company behind the Project Panther that we saw a couple of days ago at the new headquarters in Modena, Italy.

But apart from those two models that were showcased, they have also previously modified cars like the previous generation Mercedes-Benz G-Class, as well as the Bentley Mulsanne. That’s not all, as the tuner has modified a lot more cars namely: a Chevy Corvette Stingray, a Land Rover Defender, a Porsche 911 GT3 Targa, and even a Tesla Model S that they turned into a soft top convertible and another one as a wagon.
