Germany agency finds BMW 320d to be compliant of emissions rules
After going through a number of tests in Germany, the BMW 320d was deemed to be fully compliant will all legal requirements by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). The extensive test-bench and road tests were a result of accusations back in December 2017 from environmental lobby group Deutsche Umwelthilfe (Environmental Action Germany).
Klaus Frohlich, BMW board member said that their vehicles are not manipulated and comply with the country’s legal requirements. He then says that the public and the policymakers should rely on the fact that their diesel engines are clean. But he also emphasized that its customers as well as their employees can also rely on this guarantee.
Furthermore, after going through tests, the KBA did not find that BMW was involved in any illegal activities or technical provisions of any kind that influenced the test results for recording emissions. In other words, the BMW 320d had no defeat device installed to it. In fact, the KBA’s tests were pretty much the same as what other authorities worldwide have proven repeatedly after several tests.
In fact, in 2015, TUV Sud already confirmed that the NOx figures for all vehicles tested, including BMW vehicles, are within the technically explainable and expected tolerance, demonstrating very robust emission performance.
This also means that the effectiveness of the emissions control systems required for exhaust gas treatment fully reflects typical customer driving behaviour as well, and that there is no manipulation of any kind that could influence vehicle emissions.
The results they acquired also suggest that the emissions readings criticized by Deutsche Umwelthilfe were a result of “forced driving situations and flawed execution of tests”.
In the end, Frohlich said that since KBA’s tests clearly showed that the BMW car was not manipulated, they find Deutsche Umwelthilfe’s procedure unprofessional, and at the same time, meaningless.
This 3 series gets its power from a 2.0 liter diesel engine that carries out 190 horsepower and 400 Newton metres of torque, and is capable with a top speed of 230 kilometers per hour. It is indeed one hell of a car considering its compact size, handling, and its sleek and sporty interior. It also has great handling, and many other features to boast. This could then be equipped with a £2000 M Sport Plus package, and a £1,500 xDrive.
In other news, it has been a year since the BMW 320d had a facelift - which turned it into an all wheel drive. The xDrive is going to be added to about 20% of UK Series 3s. It also knocks both emissions figures and fuel consumption, and it is a car you will feel safe in when it’s dark and stormy outside.
