Italdesign Has Built An Even More Expensive R8-Based Supercar

The unfathomably expensive Italdesign ZeroUno has spawned a convertible Roadster brother, and while it's stunning, it's also ridiculously pricey

Remember the bizarre Italdesign supercar based on an Audi R8 but 10 times the price before options? Of course you do. A refresher is right here.
Just five examples of the ZeroUno were built and, presumably, sold. This year the Audi-owned design house is returning to the Geneva Motor Show with a convertible Roadster version designed to mark the firm’s 50th anniversary.
The Roadster will have the same running gear, which is to say the R8 V10 Plus’ running gear; a 5.2-litre V10 that could take the largely carbonfibre coupe past 62mph in 3.2 seconds and on to a top whack of 205mph. The convertible shouldn’t be much, if any slower off the line, but might have a slower top speed owing to the extra drag.
With a double-buttress-style engine cover it’s not obvious whether there’s actually a roof or not. It’s possible that it’s a complex Italian faff-job akin to putting up a borrowed tent using instructions written in Klingon, and it’s also possible that there’s none at all.
The coupe cost £1.3 million before options, so with Italdesign’s pricing in mind the Roadster could easily top £1.5 million plus extras. Even if we win the Euromillions jackpot tonight, we reckon we’d still just take an R8 like this one…
