This Is What The First-Ever Vietnamese Cars Will Look Like... Maybe

A Vietnamese company is launching its own car brand to try to capitalise on the growing wealth of the country, and its first cars will be styled by famous design house Pininfarina

These two bold designs are set to become the first Vietnamese cars in history. The Pininfarina-penned concepts won a public vote among 62,000 people, and were chosen above 20 other sketches from design houses across the globe.

Striking, aren’t they. The SUV and saloon will be the first models to be built by a new company called Vinfast. Pininfarina says there’s plenty of work still to do on the design… which probably means the finished product will end up looking nothing like this.

The first of the two is aimed at a September 2019 launch date. We don’t yet know which will get the green light before the other, but Vinfast apparently has ambitions to build 500,000 cars by 2025. The chief of Vinfast’s owner, Vingroup, said:The direct involvement of Pininfarina, one of the world’s biggest design brands, is expected to bring modern beauty while retaining Vietnamese identity to the first two Vinfast car models.”
