Porsche makes a move to try and stop 911 R flippers

We are pretty much aware that a lot of people purchase limited run cars to sell them for double or triple the price. And this always happens with whatever brand you can think of. One of the models that have been flipped by resellers is the limited-run 911 R.

And as a response to this, the man in charge of the Porsche 911 recently admitted that they came out with the GT3 Touring package at the recent Frankfurt Motor Show in September to target resellers who have been flipping their cars.

If you are a huge fan of the Porsche 911, you probably know that the original retail price of the R is $185,000. But since there are only 991 examples of this made, making it extra rare, resellers had the chance to skyrocket the prices. In fact, there are 911 Rs out there that are still up for grabs, only they cost $1.25 million now. Of course, any automaker who took their time, effort, and sweat into developing these cars would not be happy to hear this news, and that is why they came out with the Touring Pack for the 911 GT3.

The package is based on the limited run model, and this will give your regular 911 a 4-liter six cylinder engine that carries out 493 horsepower and a six-speed manual transmission. In other words, it is like getting your hands on the 911 R without having to damage your bank account. The package is only priced at $143,600.

August Achleitner, Porsche 911 boss, said to Road and Track that it would be better if they could lower the price of the GT3 Touring Package. He even hinted that there may be a few customers that will be disappointed but that is fine with them.

Andreas Preuninger, Porsche GT boss, on the other hand, said that the company has been watching car flippers. These customers have been identified and will not have the chance to get their hands on the limited-edition cars in the future. It should be easy for them to track these people because they don’t have that many customers, so they know these people well. He then added that he would love these cars to be used, which is the reason why they are built, and not for people to gain extra cash off them.

So for those flippers out there, I hope Porsche has taught you guys some lesson. And to Porsche, thank you for putting a stop to this mess. We also think that car collectors should stop purchasing from resellers so that they would not be motivated to do what they’ve been doing.
