Porsche surpasses US annual sales record in 2017 with 55,420 deliveries

2017 was definitely a great year for Porsche as the automaker was able to break their sales recordin the United States. Overall, they delivered a total of 55,420 vehicles, which stands for a 2.1 percent increase over the previous year.
Of course, you are probably wondering which model contributed the most to the total. And to answer your question, that would be the Macan. In fact, that nameplate alone sold 21,429 units, which is a huge improvement over 2016, which posted a total of 19,332 units delivered. Next in line is the Cayenne, which had 13,203 deliveries. The third most popular car would be the 911, which sold 6,731 units.
Just like the 911, 6,731 units of the Panamera premium sedan were sold as well. The Cayman and Boxster duo, on the other hand, reported 5,087 units in combined deliveries.
Klaus Zellmer, president and chief executive of Porsche Cars North America, said in one of his statements that this is the eighth consecutive year for the brand’s sales to have gone up in the United States.
Thanks to the increased demand for four-door and two-door Porsche sports cars, PCNA reached another record in 2017. Having said that, the automaker saw a double-digit growth for the Macan and the Panamera models. Furthermore, we can even expect sales to increase even more in the second half of the year with the arrival of the Cayenne.
But it wasn’t always smooth sailing for the auto industry. Before all the success that Porsche has been experiencing, the auto industry was not doing so well particularly in the years 2008 to 2009 due to the combination of tax cuts, credit issues, and general economic problems that largely affected car sales. In 2010, the government implemented bailouts under the “cash for clunkers” program. Billions were poured in to stimulate sales in the industry. This turned things around for Porsche, and by the end of the year, sales were up. Sales became very steady. In December alone, 3,913 vehicles were delivered.
As mentioned earlier, some of their best selling cars include the Macan and the Panamera, which experienced growth in double digits. Apart from this, their Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicles sales program has also been helping with their success. This helped them sell 2,153 units last December, which is a 24.6 percent increase over the previous year. And in the whole year, sales were up 12.5 percent.
