Audi RS5-R by ABT Sportsline is coming to 2018 Geneva Motor Show
For many years, tuners have been turbocharging vehicles to give them more power. It has become exceedingly popular among car enthusiasts to boost the performance of their city cars, turning them into supercars. It is this setting that has prompted German tuner ABT Sportsline to take an Audi RS5 and turn it into a powerhouse.
ABT recently confirmed that they will be attending the upcoming 2018 Geneva Motor Show, and what they will be showcasing would be the limited edition Audi RS5 Coupe, which is limited to only 50 examples.
What ABT did to the premium compact car was that it gave its 2.9 liter biturbo V6 engine a little boost, and now it is able to produce 530 PS (523 horsepower) and 690 Newton metres (509 pound feet) of torque.
Performance figures improved by around 0.3 seconds when it comes to acceleration, and in only 3.6 seconds, the Audi RS5 Coupe can sprint up to 100 kilometers per hour (62 miles per hour) from standstill. This is a pretty impressive number for a car that is known for its serenity and comfort behind the wheels. And going back to the output, it is up by 80 PS (79 horsepower) and 90 Nm (66 pound feet) of torque from the standard model.
Apart from the engine upgrade, the new ABT Sportsline RS5-R also features an upgraded suspension with sport stabilizers and springs that can be adjusted in height. ABT will also be adding their own anti-roll bars. ABT, together with KW, is also currently developing a special coilover suspension for it.
To make it stand out in the crowd, the aftermarket tuner gave it a unique green paint job. Its grille has been tweaked, and features like the front apron, side skirt add-ons, wheel arch vents, and decklid spoiler have been enhanced. It also has a rear diffuser with incorporated quad exhaust pipes. It now sits on a large set of wheels that have a diameter of 21 inches, wrapped in 275/25 tires. These replace the smaller standard 19 inch wheels.
Though the tuner did not share any photos of the ABT RS5-R’s interior, they instead mentioned that the cabin will have seats that are partially made with leather, an ABT gear shift cover that is covered in carbon fiber, a “1 of 50” plaque and an RS5-R logo, as well as other extras niceties that complete the package.
Like what we said earlier, we can expect to see the ABT RS5-R at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show that will be open to the media on March 6 and to the public on March 8.
