BMW M5 (F90) with Competition Package may have 625 horsepower

After the BMW M5 (F90) took the record for the longest drift a couple of weeks ago (and don’t forget the crazy car-to-car refuelling trick that happened at the same time), BMW is finally going to focus on something more serious.
Someone from the Bimmer Post forums even posted that there is a confirmed Competition Package that is just around the corner. Production for this is scheduled to begin in the beginning of April, and BMW said that it will debut sometime this year.
The news was announced to us by none other than the BMW Driving Experience’s head in a BMW M Ice Experience event that took place in Sweden. Though the source was unnamed, he has been a member of the forum for quite some time now, and therefore, this is a reason to believe that the piece of information is entirely legit.
However, our main focus is not about when the Competition Package will debut. The source also leaked that the package will give the M5 an extra 25 horsepower from its 4.4 liter biturbo V8 engine.
Having said that, it only means that it will give out a maximum of 625 horsepower to eclipse Mercedes-AMG and its 603 horsepower E63 S. Though he did not reveal anything about the torque, we think that there will be a minor increase over the current 553 pound-feet (750 Newton metres).
Speaking of power and output, this is just a minor part of the Competition Package. Apart from that, it will also bundle with several other upgrades to make the M5 more track focused. We should expect niceties such as carbon ceramic brakes, sharper chassis, and a stiffer suspension setup, alongside a set of new alloy wheels. Inside, there should also be some subtle upgrades as well.
Right now, the German automaker has not shared anything with regards to how much it will cost. But this fully loaded BMW M5 Competition Package will definitely be pricier than the regular version. Speaking of which, it will likely cost as much as $138,825 if all the options are added to it.
In early April, the automaker plans to begin production. It means we will likely see the M5 CP at the Geneva Motor Show that is set to arrive in the beginning of March. In the same month, expect to see the BMW M5 later on in the month in the United States at the New York Auto Show. Anticipate the online debut to take place before it makes its live appearance.
