Gazoo Supra by Toyota will debut at 2018 Geneva Motor Show

At the upcoming 2018 Geneva Motor Show this March 6, Toyota plans to take the covers off its all new Supra. But here is one thing you need to know, the car will not come with a Toyota badge, but instead, will be branded under Gazoo. No less than Shigeki Tomoyama, who heads the sub-brand, told AutoExpress that “the Supra will be a Gazoo”.

For those customers who are interested in the Gazoo Supra, note that this will be available in four states of tune. It will have various power levels, suspension tunes, and equipment. First of all, the entry level model will be called just a Supra, while the higher trims, it will have a GR and a GR Sport following its name. Lastly, the range-topping model will be called the Supra GRMN.

The Supra’s half-brother, the BMW Z4, will be different as it will only be sold as a convertible, while the new Supra will be introduced as a fixed-roof coupe, also because it needs to get the attention of classic car fans, says Tomoyama.

After saying that, he also gave us a hint of what the powertrain of the Supra will be like when he said that it should appeal to existing owners. The Gazoo boss himself is the owner of a 600 bhp carbon fiber-bodies previous generation Supra. And the old model has a twin turbo straight six engine, and a rear wheel drive. Therefore, the Gazoo Supra will likely be built with the same philosophy.

If we are correct and the Supra does get the same powertrain, it will have an output of 335 horsepower, which will likely be marketed to the United States consumer. But it will also probably be joined by a four-cylinder mill that can carry out as much as 250 horsepower.

Because it will only make its first live appearance at the Geneva Motor Show, the Supra will probably get to showrooms sometime in the second half of 2019. We are guessing that it may be launched side by side with the new BMW Z4, or it is also possible that the Z4 arrives in showrooms ahead of time.

If you have not heard of Gazoo, it is the performance division of Toyota, and the reason that Toyota has given the Supra the Gazoo nameplate is probably because the racing team had been more involved in the development of this model. This started when Akio Toyoda, Toyota’s president, tested the vehicle and said that it needs to be more mobile than it already is.
