A rare Aston Martin DB5 owned by a prince can be yours for $1 million

Fancy owning a vintage grand tourer that has been owned by a royalty? Well, here's your chance. A rare 1964 Aston Martin DB5 previously owned by Persian Prince Sadrudding Aga Kahn is up for grabs.

Classic car collectors are sure to salivate upon hearing news of this legendary car being offered to the public. Now you may want to ask just how desirable this Aston Martin model is. Anyone would be familiar with this model as having been featured in the James Bond movies, particularly its on-screen debut in Goldfinger. It was released to the British market on February 7, 1964 and has graced the roads of Northumberland for the first 22 years of its existence. Now housed at Hexagon Classics in North London, this particular DB5 model is painted in the unusual Goodwood Green.

The original owner was Mr D Levey of Levey's Wallpaper Stories in 1964, afterwards Prince Aga Kahn purchased this retro car for personal use in Switzerland after having it fully restored. He decided to keep it until February 1998 when he convinced another Geneva resident to purchase it. The resident kept it for 16 years until Hexagon Classics acquired it for an undisclosed amount in the year 2015.

Furthermore, Hexagon has provided the car what it deserved- a full restoration that includes a repaint in its classic Goodwood Green pallet and an interior re-trim in factory Connolly leather finish. Also fitted to this old chap is a set of brand new period appropriate Wilton carpets in beige fashion. Pugsley and Lewis Ltd, Aston Martin specialist, tended the 1964 DBS 4.0L straight six engine well, giving it an overall rebuild that can be started on an unleaded petrol. Besides the engine makeover, a fresh clutch was also suited in addition with a pristine chrome wire wheels and Avon Radial tyres.

The 1964 DBS engine and underside have been primed to maintain standards to ready the mint retro car as it is set to grace the halls at summer shows, Hexagon reported. Paul Michaels, Hexagon Classics' chairman, remarked that the retro DB5 is without question is one of the finest Aston Martin DB5 samples currently existing worldwide. He also stated that the vintage DB5 has not only undergone precise full restoration but is also noted to have an influential ex-owner. DB5s in mint condition with an awesome ownership history is such remarkable, and that purchasing an iconic example of a true blue British automotive legend is beyond incredible, Michaels declared in his interview.

If you will be purchasing this hunk of an automobile, it comes with a factory build sheet, all work invoices describing the 1968 restoration and the complete details of the recent restoration. There are more documentation papers that come with it, including a 1964 Aston Martin Factory Brochure, owner's manual and original factory jack. The asking price, you say? It will bear a price tag of around £799,995 (approximately $1,002,473). The vintage model will be sold with a full Ministry of Transport (MOT) and a cool 12-month warranty.

EX-AGA KHAN ASTON MARTIN DB5 GOES ON SALE AT HEXAGON

Hexagon Classics is proud to offer for sale a stunning Aston Martin DB5, previously owned by Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan and presented in fully restored condition.

Arguably the most famous and loved Aston Martin ever made, the DB5 is one of the most desirable classic cars in the world. Over the years, it has made several starring roles in movies, its screen debut being in the James Bond film Goldfinger.

Supplied new on 7th February 1964 by official Aston Martin agents Mill Car Garages of County Durham to Levey’s Wallpaper Stores of Walstead, Northumberland, the DB5 at Hexagon Classics was ordered by a Mr D Levey who specified the colour of Goodwood Green.

In 1986 it was bought by Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan for his personal use in Switzerland. At the point of export, His Highness commissioned a detailed restoration. The Aga Khan held ownership of the DB5 until February 1998 when he sold it to another Geneva resident who kept the vehicle for some 16 years until it was acquired by Hexagon Classics in 2015.

Since then, it has undergone a complete restoration that has included a full repaint in the original manufactured colour of Goodwood Green and an interior re-trim in the original colour option of Connolly Leather Natural Hide. This re-trim has also included new, period-correct Beige Wilton carpets.

Under the skin, the DB5’s 4.0-litre straight-six-cylinder engine has had a mechanical re-furbishment completed by Aston Martin specialists, Pugsley & Lewis Ltd, a rebuild that now allows the car to run on unleaded fuel. It has also been treated to a new clutch, new Avon Radial tyres and new 15-inch Chromium wire wheels.

Further features include an engine compartment & vehicle underside prepared to concours standards.

Accompanying this car is a comprehensive service history file which includes the Factory Build Sheet and all works invoices detailing the 1986 restoration and those just completed. The documentation also includes a 1964 Aston Martin Factory Brochure, Aston Martin DB5 Owner’s Manual and original factory jack among other items. The car will be sold with a full MOT and 12-month warranty.
