BMW X7 Concept is no-show in Detroit due to damages sustained in transit

If you had plans to head to the 2018 Detroit Auto Show this month to see cars like the BMW Concept X7 iPerformance, we have got some bad news for you. The concept car is currently not on display because it got into an accident on its way there.

The very first time we saw this concept was at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. It was then followed by another public appearance in the United States, just six weeks ago. The concept’s next schedule was then supposed to already be at Detroit, unfortunately, it is not meant to be.

In their statement to Autonews, the automaker just said that the X7 Concept got damaged while being transported to Detroit by delivery truck, though they did not share any more details regarding the accident or how it happened. We also do not know how heavily damaged it was. To replace the X7 Concept in the show, the automaker displayed a standard 7 Series sedan instead.

Since fans will not be able to see the X7 Concept in the show, we will just tell you what it is like. The concept is a preview of a new flagship crossover that will be positioned above the X5. This model includes three rows of seating to fit more passengers. The automaker is in fact already getting ready to produce this model at their Spartanburg, South Carolina plant, which is where most of the Bavarian automaker’s crossovers are built.

The BMW X7, as mentioned earlier, is going to be the brand’s most luxurious and expensive SUV, being even more premium than the 7 Series sedan. Aside from being able to carry more passengers, it will also feature BMW’s newest luxury and technology. The concept seems to have struck a balance between a futuristic and high-tech design, with its slim headlights and the kidney grilles.

When the X7 finally arrives in showrooms later this year, it will have a handful of competitors out there from the Mercedes GLS, Audi Q7, Volvo XC90 to the Range Rover Sport. Aside from that, there are also the larger truck-based SUVs from the Lincoln Navigator, the Cadillac Escalade, Infiniti QX80 and the Lexus LX 570.

While there are many who got disappointed that BMW’s new concept failed to make an appearance at the Detroit show, it won’t be long before the production model will debut sometime this year. Despite not having the Concept X7 on display, BMW still had a pretty good lineup, which included models like the BMW X2, the facelifted i8 Coupe, and an i8 Roadster.
