Scuderia now taking preorders for road-legal SCG 004S, price starts at $400,000

If you’re anything like us, it has been ages since there was a new model that truly got you excited. Well, we’re willing to bet that this newest supercar will blow you away. After relentlessly teasing us, the American-made mid-engine racecar with street-legal credit has finally had its premiere. It has so many things going great for it, where do we start?
First, let’s talk about the company. Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus (or SGC) is a limited edition sports car manufacturer from the US founded by automotive entrepreneur and film producer, James Glickenhaus. Not considered mainstream, SCG has become popular for having been responsible for the P33 or SCG 003 that made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show back in 2015. What happened after that is certainly worthy to be placed in history books.
SGC has recently been granted the right to build up to 325 turn key cars a year by the NHTSA. Having been given the low volume status means they are allowed to design a supercar that only needs to conform to the emissions and safety standards of the state where it is being registered.
What’s with the new SCG 004S? While it is a three-seat racer, it legal for road use with the driver’s seat placed at the center similar to that on a McLaren Formula One. Tipping the scales at only 1179kg (2600 lbs), the low slung supercar has been developed using carbon fiber body panels and chassis to achieve its proper weight.
The SCG 004S is powered by a 5.0- liter biturbo engine that delivers 650hp and a maximum torque output of 531 lb-ft. It has a built-in six-speed manual gated shifter but an automatic paddle-shifter is likewise available as an option. Other options can be availed for an extra cost including the choice of either a tinted body finish or a natural carbon fiber one.
Glickenhaus has yet to reveal the SCG 004’s performance figures. But considering its lightweight body and powerful engine, we’ll be expecting some impressive figures to go with it. That being said, we’ll expect nothing less from Olivier Thomas, its Chief Engineer, whose work experience includes the McLaren P1 hypercar and from its design team, which was headed by British industrial designer Michael Young.
As for the price, the SCG 004S will be sold for a starting price of $400,000. The first 25 examples will be tagged as the Founders Edition and will be out for delivery within the next 18 months. This will be followed by 250 units a year in addition to building some GT3 and GTE/ GTLM versions that will take part in the 24 Hours of Nurburgring racing competition. Fortunately, interested buyers need not wait too long as preorders are now being accepted in exchange for a $40,000 deposit or 10% of the unit price.
