Alfa Romeo will add 2 new models to its lineup: a Giulietta successor and a new 4C

Alfa Romeo has been working on revitalizing its product portfolio, beginning with the Giulia and the Stelvio. Other than those two, the Italian automaker also has plans on adding a larger crossover in the lineup too, but what will that be? Well, if our sources are reliable, the automaker was said to be looking into two new vehicles, namely the 4C and another model that will be the successor of the Giulietta.

Roberto Fedeli, Alfa Romeo’s chief technical officer told Auto Express, said that they will need a few other pillars, to put in the C-segment, as well as a much sportier model, for them to be able to complete the Alfa range of products.

Alfa Romeo is also considering a shortened version of the Giulietta, which will be the shortened version of the Giulia sedan’s platform, and it will likely be a rear wheel drive as well. And take note, that this is a rare territory for C-segment hatchbacks, kind of like the formula of the BMW 1 Series hatch. The thing is, Alfa and FCA will have to make sure that it is worth their time, money, and effort to re-enter that segment.

In the past couple of years, FCA has not had a great experience with small cars, because most of them are unprofitable. This is why they discontinued models like the Dodge Dart, Chrysler 200, and Lancia Delta. In fact, in an interview with Fedeli, he admitted that it is very difficult to make a profit with those cars.

Earlier, we also mentioned that an updated 4C might be on its way too, but the company is also looking past that to the long-term future of the model. Fedeli said that they will soon have to decide whether they will install a different engine, or change the architecture overall, through some small modifications. He added that they have a couple of options to choose from and are working on more than just one as well. Here is one thing they are sure of though, which may not be good news to purists as well - it will not have a manual transmission option.

Alfa Romeo had planned to reintroduce the brand name in the US, and it had a $6 billion plan to do this. However, sales went down instead because of the 4C sports car as well as the production delays of the Giulia sedan. In fact, the automaker currently only sells three models in the US, but more are on the way. We truly think that they will do a lot better by offering more options to the market.
