1974 Lancia Stratos HF Stradale up for grabs
Lancia Stratos has long been recognized to be an Italian motorsport icon. Even if it was a road-going rally car, it was accredited to be part of the World Rally Championship held in 1974. Not only did it win the Group 4 championships on its first year but also won the two years after that. Under the homologation standards, it was important that 500 units be scheduled for production. However by 1978, only 492 such units rolled off the production line.
Like any limited production models, finding a well-kept unit is not only almost impossible. But when one is available, it is shockingly expensive. Those who are looking for a Lancia Stratos are in luck as a pristine version of this rare rally car has recently been listed on Bring a Trailer. This website is a platform to sell classic and vintage cars online.
As of this writing, the highest bid for the 1974 Lancia Stratos HF Stradale stands at $360,000. There are still five days left for the auction so there remains the possibility of the price going up.
This model is the 44th model out of the total 492 that were manufactured. According to the posting, since coming off the assembly line in 1974, it had only come into possession of two owners. It had been mainly based in Italy before being brought to the shores of the U.S. This Lancia Stratos has been driven for a total of 44,000 original miles.
It is important to note that this matching-numbers model continues to have the original Dino mid-mounted 2.4-liter V6 engine and paired to the original manual 5-speed gearbox. Even the chassis and the Bertone body have been retained. All of this has been confirmed by none other than Thomas Popper, marquee expert and a member of the Lancia Stratos Owners Club. The seller did reveal that this model was given a complete mechanical overhaul in 2017 and thus can run as if it had just gone out of the production line.
The listing on the website reveals as well that the model has the original Bertone/Scocca “214” body number stampings and the tags on the trunk lid and the wall. The same stampings are also present on the two lower door hinges, right-front chassis, left-front chassis, and even the supplemental Lancia plaque.
On the inside, the high-level of originality is still present like the recovered seat bolsters. The seats have been equipped with the original “Havana” inserts and the red carpets look to be in good condition. In addition, the front compartment has the original spare tire assembly and windshield washer pouch.
The 1974 Lancia Stratos HF Stradale comes with a clean Texas title as well as copies of various documents. These include registration slips, original insurance, importation paperwork, and service records. Even the original owner’s manual is included. To know more, visit Bring a Trailer.
