The British automaker says that this model is about the spirit of discovery. And we totally agree with them. MINI Countryman fits five passengers, it has a huge trunk capacity, an optional all wheel drive system, and now, it adds comfort and a more homey vibe to its passengers with its convertible roof tent.

Mini collaborated with Autohome to come up with this genius idea. Autohome is an Italian company that has been around for over 50 years, with a specialization in roof tents for automobiles. The inspiration of the design comes from both Mini’s product portfolio, combined with Autohome’s signature design.

Customers can order this roof tent directly from Mini dealerships. So far, it is only compatible with the new Countryman and are available in two colours, white and black. There are only two colours available as these shades complement the contrasting colours of the outside mirror caps and the roof of the crossover.

When the tent is not in use, it is compact just like a conventional transport box, and is aerodynamically designed and for lower fuel consumption. Instead of putting it over your roof rails like surfboards, the tent is actually installed on the crossover’s standard roof rails for extra security. When being used, the tent will automatically raise when the safety clasps are released (two at the front, and one at the back), thanks to the four gas pressure springs. It’s that simple, no need for extra tools.

The waterproof tent measures over 3 feet (94 centimeters) high. Not only will this protect you from the rain and the heat as it also reduces noise due to its high-quality fabric that offers “optimum ventilation and insulating properties”. The four outer walls are all made of this special fabric. Inside, the tent comes with complete battery operated LED interior light and a high-density mattress with cotton cover for added comfort.

To make you feel more secure, there are two windows with zips, mosquito nets, and two doors instead of one. There are also luggage nets and pockets where you can keep your personal items safe. Of course, the tent comes with a solid aluminum ladder so you can easily climb up to your “home”.

The Italian specialist AUTOHOME has expanded its product range to include a roof tent that perfectly matches both the look of the new MINI Countryman and the current MINI brand design.

A special edition of the AirTop roof tent model was designed in cooperation with the MINI Design Team and is now available directly from the manufacturer in black or white in keeping with the contrasting colours for roof and outside mirror caps for the new MINI Countryman. AUTOHOME has more than 50 years of experience in developing and making automobile roof tents and its products are used both in the leisure sector and on professional expeditions.

Mounting the mobile shelter is facilitated by the standard roof rails on the new MINI Countryman. This allows you to use the model-specific roof rail carrier – available from the MINI Shop as a MINI Original Accessory. The roof tent attachment system can be mounted on this carrier in a few easy moves without the need for tools. This roof rail carrier provides a solid foundation for the roof tent attachment, which is fixed stably and securely using the steel clamps included.

When closed, the roof tent is barely distinguishable from a conventional transport box. The aerodynamically optimised lines of its fibre-glass housing ensure a reduction in air resistance and wind noise. Opening it is simply a matter of releasing the safety clasps – two at the front and one at the rear. The tent superstructure is then automatically raised by means of four gas pressure springs.

The interior height of the mobile accommodation unit is 94 centimetres. With a stable cover and outer walls in special high-quality fabric, the tent is not only rain proof but also offers optimum ventilation properties as well as a high level of heat and noise insulation. The features of the roof tent include a high-density mattress with cotton cover, two doors and two windows with zips, close-meshed mosquito nets at all openings and a battery-operated LED interior light, as well as luggage nets and pockets to stow personal items.
