How does Ferrari’s Off-road GTC4 Lusso sound to you?

We’d like to believe that this Ferrari GTC4 Lusso SUV is not a fragment of another designer’s imagination. But in reality, it is. Since many of us love cars but only a few get the chance to actually design one, Spdesignsest on Instagram has digitally rendered this Ferrari into a sport utility vehicle despite the constraints in the grand tourer’s actual product design, which obviously isn’t suitable for treading the rockiest terrains on earth. To that end, the rendering artist has digitally equipped the GTC4 Lusso with highly durable plastic cladding and higher suspension.

While the likes of Bugatti, Pagani Koenigsegg and McLaren aren’t entertaining such thoughts for now, only time will tell if the idea of an off-road SUV will actually prevail. Besides, a number of luxury car manufacturers have lately jumped into the growing SUV trend. There is Aston Marin’s DBX, Rolls Royce’s Cullinan and Lamborghini’s Urus just to name a few.

Oddly, Ferrari refuses to make use of the term SUV and would rather call it an FUV. Supposedly an off-road utility vehicle is on the cards, Ferrari would rather stick to its two-door setup even when the brand has come up with several limited edition four door wagons, sedans and even concept in the past. This includes the one-off Pinin concept sedan in 1980 which was built to commemorate Pininfarina’s 50th year anniversary. There were also Ferrari’s 456 Venice or the four door wagons and sedans commissioned by the Sultan of Brunei. The GTC4Lusso no doubt, being a four-wheel-drive four-seater vehicle is the most ideal candidate for off-road treatment from the house of Maranello.

From what we know, the FUV is likely to take on the next generation GTC4Lusso’s platform and is expected to boost the company’s revenues by 2022. This should come at least with a V8 engine and an electric motor that sends power to all four wheels.

As standard, the GTC4Lusso has enough room to seat up to four persons, one driver and three passengers. Featuring a blue “tour de France” paint color, the grand tourer is packed with a 681hp, 514lb-ft of torque 6.3-liter V12 engine. This mighty powertrain can go from a zero to 6o miles per hour in just 3.4 seconds before reaching a top speed of 204mph.

It’s been said that Ferrari now has a code name for what it calls an FUV or a Ferrari utility vehicle, with the so-called F16X which will be announced officially sometime next year. With the SUV’s more practical set-up and ampler interior, we can say this is a much better choice for those who have outgrown their red two-seater supercars.
