California dealer is selling a jet black 2016 Porsche 911 R for $409,000












For a car that was just introduced in 2016, the Porsche 911 R (991 generation) is fetching a pretty high price in the resale market. Examples have changed hands for amount several times the original launch price of $184,900. In fact, a Porsche 911 R was sold by an Australian group early this year for over $900,000 (US). But now, a seller from California is selling a 911 R for half that asking price.
Ilusso, a dealer based in Costa Mesa, California, is selling a 2016 Porsche 911 R – which means it is essentially brand new -- for $409,000. This asking price is more than twice the original price of $184,900.
This particular 911 R being sold is wrapped in a jet black finish and features continuous colored stripes in dark grey over the entire mid-section. It also features a red 'Porsche' script as well as red-and-white door accents along each of its sides. It also rides on bright red 20-inch GT3 center lock wheels. Featuring a VIN (vehicle identification number) of WP0AF2A92GS195321, this 2016 Porsche 911 R only has 140 miles (225 km) on its odometer, which is the mileage of a newly driven sports car. This Porsche is number 286 of the 991 total units produced.
Inside, this 911 R comes with a black leather interior with GT Silver stitching, a Bose surround sound system and illuminated door sills.
While the asking price does seem hefty, it could be noted Porsche 911 R examples were sold or being sold for $700,000 in late 2016, the same year that the pre-bred sports car was unveiled. A dark grey version of the 911 R also changed hands for just over half a million dollars.
The German sports car maker unveiled the Porsche 911 R at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. A reincarnation of the original 911 R that Porsche that was introduced in 1967, the 991 version is described as a race-bred road-going history-inspired sports car. The original 911 R took part in several of iconic road races at its time – such as the Tour de France and Targa Florio.
Developed in Porsche’s Motorsport workshop like the 911 GT3 and 911 GT3 RS models, the Porsche 911 R is the lightest version of the 911, as the special model only has an overall weight of 1,370 kg. Serving as its core is a high-revving 4.0-liter six-cylinder naturally aspirated boxer engine that delivers 500 hp of max output at 8,250 rpm and 460 Nm of peak torque at 6,250 rpm. Power is pushed to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual sports transmission with a short gearshift travel. The 911 R has the capability to spring from a standing start to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and it can achieve a top speed of 201 mph (323 km/h).
There are only 991 examples of the Porsche 911 R – in reference to its generation – and all have already been sold out. This means that for those trying to get behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 R, this model on-sale would be already be a good bargain.
