Singer Vehicle Design has built the ‘hypercar’ of watches dubbed the ‘Track 1’

Automobiles coming from Singer Vehicle Design don't come cheap... and for good reason. The So-Cal company is notable for modifying classic Porsche 911s, placing them among the most splendid and intricately detailed vehicles that have ever been made. While this marvelous vehicles demand an equally premium price, the company will release a far more "affordable" creation, in a sense.

The firm is now tackling a new design icon in the form of a classic sports watch that is called the Singer Reimagined Track 1 Chronograph. This exquisite timepiece will put the company's prodigious craftsmanship on one's wrist.

According to Hodinkee, the Track 1 wristwatch is the product of a collaboration between Singer head honcho Rob Dickinson, watch designer Marco Borraccino and watchmaker Jean-Marc Wiederrecht. The original design had stemmed from a conversation between Dickinson and Borraccino, a notable watch designer whose resume includes a stint as design head for Panerai and establishing the Chair of Watch Design Program at the Geneva School for Art and Design.

Dickinson and Borraccino bonded over a passion of the connection of both engineering and design, and afterwards an amazing plan was set in motion. The timepiece's mech movements have been treated like an engine of an automobile, and the Track 1 is akin to a hypercar with that comparison. The premium watch utilizes self-winding Wiederrecht's AgenGraphe calibre movement in which a set of aluminium discs rotates around the outside of the timepiece.

A pointer at the traditional 6'oclock position reveals the current time. Moreover, the dials perform the chronograph's stopwatch-like duty that includes hours, minutes and seconds. The Track 1 can measure an event for up to an impressive 60 hours unlike the traditional chronographs that can only track the maximum time of only 12 hours. A transparent back can also give a preview to a person who likes to view this complicated movement.

Similar to how Singer aims to redirect the essence of the 911 to the watch, the Track 1's DNA is largely influenced in the 1960s and 70s "golden era" of chronographs in motorsport. The Track 1 will also flaunt a brush titanium case with polished details, and the case measures around 43 mm across (1.69 in). The wristwatch is fitted with a leather strap that has metal eyelets. The outside dial will also light up for one to be able to view the time when in the dark.

Singer Vehicle Design will launch the Track 1 for a limited edition of only 50 releases, and this timepiece will bear a price tag of around 39,800 Swiss Francs ($41,040 at current exchange rates)
