Taiwan’s 1MW Xing Mobility Miss R electric supercar is quicker than 2020 Tesla Roadster

California-based Tesla Motors surprised the automotive world when it unveiled the prototype version of the 2020 Tesla Roadster. But there’s even more in store for consumers. The second generation of the Roadster wouldn’t be an ordinary all-electric four-seater sports car as it could sprint from nil to 60 mph in just 1.9 seconds. And right when you don’t think anyone can catch up, an electric vehicle from Taiwan is being claimed to be even faster on the sprint.
Taiwan-based company Xing Mobility is introducing Miss R, the first electric supercar in the world that offers both operational capabilities on the road and off the road. Newly established in 2013, Xing Mobility provides electric powertrain systems to the commercial and industrial automobile manufacturers around the world. Now, the company is using its expertise in this field to create the first all-electric supercar in the world with on-road and off-road capability, the rally-inspired Miss R.
Xing Mobility noted that on the surface, the specs of Miss R are very similar to that of the 2020 Tesla Roadster. Propulsion of Miss R is made possible by four independent 350V electric motors. Miss R is expected to accelerate from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 1.8 seconds. But since the 2020 Roadster employs the 0-60 mph gauge, Miss R could be quicker than Tesla’s sports car by more than 0.1 seconds. In addition, Miss R could also accelerate from standstill to 124 mph (200 km/h) in 5.1 seconds and achieve a top speed of over 168 mph (270 km/h).
The secret to the awesome performance lies in Xing Mobility’s patented immersion cooling technology. Its Xing Battery System is made up of stackable LEGO-like battery modules that could accommodate 42 lithium-ion cells (16850 type) sitting directly in a non-conductive from 3M, the Novec 7200 Engineered Fluid. Working together, the Xing Battery System and 3M Novec Engineered Fluids has allowed the company to employ fewer cells to attain world-class performance.
In fact, the battery of Miss R only has 98 modules holding 4,116 cells, but the power output delivered already reaches 1 Megawatt (1,341 hp). The number of cells employed by Miss R is up to 50 percent less than that of other electric supercars in the market. Interestingly, Xing Mobility is employing a lightweight battery swap system that allows owners to exchange the entire battery enclosure in just 5 minutes. This would be much faster than the current charging capabilities implemented even in supercharging stations.
Xing Mobility already had Miss R undergo a series of initial tests, including one in which the full drive-train is exposed. Miss R remains under development, and a complete prototype is expected to be unveiled in late 2018. Once the final version is developed, Xing Mobility will commence production, but only 20 examples will be built. Available starting 2019, Miss R is expected to fetch a starting price of $1 million.
