Koenigsegg sells out all 80 examples of its Regera megacar

A product with a price tag of nearly $2 million could be a hard sell. But that isn’t necessarily true for every product in the market, especially if it concerns super-athletic cars or classic vehicles. At a price of around $1.9 million for each example, some would have thought that the Koenigsegg Regera megacar might be hard to hawk. But Swedish hypercar marque Koenigsegg has the last laugh, as it turned out that it already sold all 80 examples of its Regera hypercars.

This could be bad news for those are really considering buying a new Koenigsegg Regera. However, for Koenigsegg, this is delightful news as it signals the overwhelming success of the Regera hypercar. Koenigsegg has limited the production of the Regera to 80 examples. For the Swedish carmaker, this is already a big number, noting that the Regera program is so far the largest single vehicle series in its history.

Now that Koenigsegg has already sold out the Regera megacar, those who are still interested in buying a new one might think they don’t have a chance to acquire one anymore. However, Koenigsegg has posted in its Facebook account that interested buyers could contact their local dealer to see whether a Regera is still available. But we highly doubt that, after all, the Regera has several selling points that are hard to ignore.

For one, the hybrid powertrain of the Regera produces more than 1,500 hp of output and more than 2,000 Nm of torque. This amount of power is already insane, twice the levels of some supercars. This hybrid drivetrain makes use of a dry-sump twin-turbo DOHC 5.0-liter V8 engine as supported by three electric motors: one on the crankshaft and one on each of the two rear axles. The V8 engine is tuned to deliver 1,100 hp of output and 1,250 Nm of torque, while the electric drive delivers a total of 670 hp of output and 900 Nm of instant torque. Complementing the electric drive is its 4.5-kWh 800-Volt liquid cooled battery pack.

Interestingly, the Koenigsegg Regera doesn’t have any transmission. Instead, power is sent to the rear wheels through the groundbreaking Koenigsegg Direct Drive system (KDD). The KDD provides direct drive from the combustion engine to the rear axle sans using several gears or a variable transmission, thereby saving both weight and mechanical losses. With this amount of power and the use of the KDD, the Regera could accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds; to 200 km/h in 6.6 seconds; and to 400 km/h in under 20 seconds. Top speed is at 410 km/h, which is electronically limited.
