Newly picked-up Honda Civic Type R is wrecked on the way home from dealership
What could be a new 2017 Honda Civic Type R owner dread the most? Well, such nightmares would be a plenty, but at the top would probably be having your newly picked up Honda Civic Type R getting into a traffic collision and getting damaged.
Such was the case for a certain customer of a new Honda Civic Type R in the United States named Greg Ellingson. Just like any new owner of a new car, Ellingson would have been very happy that he was already taking home his brand new Honda Civic Type R. But his new Civic Type R never made it home, and what would have been a happy day for Ellingson turned into a gloomy event.
According to Ellingson, he encountered stop-and-go traffic on the highway going home. During one of the halts, Ellingson and the vehicle on the front had been stationary and waiting for some time. He was at least a full car length behind the driver in front of him. Then, another vehicle suddenly hit the crashed his Civic Type R, and it was so forceful that it pushed Ellingson’s new ride all the way to the tail of the car on front. The result? There was massive damage on the rear end of Ellingson’s Civic Type R. The front end, including the bonnet, of the performance version of the Civic also received considerable damage.
Ellingson went on to state that right after the collision, Honda Link Assist immediately went and asked him to pull to the side of the road. When the car on the front moved to the side, Ellingson also followed suit. Then Honda Link asked him if assistance was needed; after five to 10 seconds of receiving no response, it called 911. Then, Honda Road Side called Ellingson’s phone to ask if assistance was required.
Although his Honda Civic Type R got damaged as a result of the collision, Ellingson was grateful that the car protected him, as he came out without any scratch. He noted that even after taking all the impact of the collision, all four doors could still open. He also praised Honda’s engineers for a fantastic job designing the Civic Type R.
Ellingson is still waiting for the insurance coverage for his damaged car. He said that it is highly likely that it would be declared totaled, which means that he gets 100 percent of what he paid for the Civic Type R. Of course, for his next car, he would be getting another Honda Civic Type R, with a gray finish.
