2019 Toyota Avalon teased ahead of 2018 Detroit Auto Show

Toyota has been driving around the 2019 Toyota Avalon in camouflage for quite some time now, but still, none of us have seen it without its cover. However, we will not have to wait much longer as the revamped Toyota full-sizer will make its debut next month at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It will feature an all new design as well as a new platform technology.

Apart from the teaser photo that gives us a detailed look of the new sharper and slimmer headlights, that remind us of the mid-sized Camry, the automaker has not shared any more details about the new car. Based on the spy photos we saw this summer, we could tell that the front fascia will have a much larger air intake too. Overall, the Avalon would look a little more aggressive in style, which will actually help it get more attention.

Just like any other new Toyota vehicle, the Avalon will be based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) for its underpinnings, which will be featured on the new Camry as well. We think that this model will carry quite a lot of power too based on the prototypes we have seen that were designed with quad exhaust tips. However, sources say that two of the exhaust tips from the prototypes are not real as part of a plan to throw off spy photographers. We expect the Avalon to have the same 3.5 liter V6 engine or a four-cylinder hybrid. While they’re nothing new, both will bring power to all four wheels.

As for performance, we do not know yet how much the new Avalon will improve from the outgoing model. Furthermore, we have yet to find out what new features it will have.

The outgoing Avalon is still the one from the 2012 model year. Now may not actually be the best time to introduce a refreshed version of it, mainly because a lot of customers are choosing sport utility vehicles and crossovers over sedans. In fact, in 2017 alone, most automakers have noticed a decrease in sales of sedans. Furthermore, Ford recently announced that they are planning to drop a number of car models so that they could add more variations of SUVs and trucks in their lineup.

Sales figures of the 2012 Avalon have dropped by 30 percent through November, and this is why we are interested to know whether a refreshed model would make an impact and turn things around for Toyota. In only a few weeks, we will have a better look of the 2019 Avalon, so stay tuned. We aren’t huge fans of sedans, though we are excited to see what the brand has in store for us
