Brazilian designer renders 2018 VW Polo Alltrack to suit the outdoor lifestyle

Volkswagen strong sellers like the Golf and the Passat have their Alltrack versions, which offer a sportier driving experience with an all-terrain capability and rugged looks. But another VW strong seller, the Polo supermini, doesn’t have an Alltrack version. Nonetheless, a Brazilian automotive designer is providing Polo fans an idea of how an Alltrack version of the supermini might look like.

Essentially, VW employs the Alltrack moniker to identify derivative models that cater to urban customers with active lifestyles. These customers are people who spend the weekdays in the city, and the weekend off the road. This is why all of VW’s Alltrack models are fitted with an all-wheel drive system. VW distinguishes the Alltrack versions from their base vehicles by making them appear rugged.

Here comes a detailed rendering of the VW Polo Alltrack, as created by Kleber Silva of Sao Paulo, Brazil. This isn't the first time an Alltrack version of the Polo has been rendered visually, but Silva’s work is certainly worth considering.

Silva’s rendering of the VW Polo Alltrack appears seamless. It almost seems like the German carmaker actually tapped this graphic artist to design the model. His work involved taking the body of a VW Polo and covering it with the claddings from the VW Golf Alltrack, resulting in a VW Polo Alltrack with a rugged look. Various body components were wrapped in claddings like the front and rear bumpers, wheel wells and side sills – all of which provide off-road protection for the rendered VW Polo Alltrack. Furthermore, compared to the VW Polo, the VW Polo Alltrack seems to have a higher ground clearance, which would be useful when the driver decides to go off the road.

Just like how the VW Golf Alltrack shares underpinnings with other members of the Golf family, the VW Polo Alltrack could likewise do so. This means that just like the new, sixth generation Polo, the Polo Alltrack is based on the new Modular Transverse Matrix for compact models (MQB A0). This also means that the VW Polo Alltrack offers the same level of interior spaciousness as the VW Polo.

Furthermore, the new VW Polo Alltrack could be powered by any of the engines available for the VW Polo, except for the Polo GTI-exclusive 2.0-liter TSI mill that delivers 147 kW (200 PS). Thus, the engines – either TSI petrol or TDI diesel units -- available for the VW Polo Alltrack have a power range of between 48 kW (65 PS) and 110 kW (150 PS). A natural gas engine -- the newly developed 1.0 TGI – could even be employed for an output of 66 kW (90 PS).

Of course, as an Alltrack, power is sent to all four wheels (all-wheel drive) through either a six-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox.
