Ram’s aging full-sized pickup bids adieu with 1500 Hydro Blue Sport special edition
Soon, the current generation of the Ram 1500 will be saying goodbye. Nonetheless, it will all end on a sweet note as the American truck maker wouldn’t let the vaunted full-size pickup truck go without a bang. Thus, Ram is introducing the special-edition 2018 Ram 1500 Hydro Blue Sport.
This isn't the first time the Ram offered a vividly colored special edition of the Ram 1500 Sport pickup truck. In late 2016, the American truck maker created and offered the Ram 1500 Ignition Orange special edition. This year alone, Ram introduced Sublime (Green) and Copper Sport limited-edition trucks. Of course, the Ram 1500 Hydro Blue Sport won't be the last special edition that Ram would offer, but it would be the final model in the 2017 model year.
Wrapped in water-like blue exterior paint finish, the 2018 Ram 1500 Hydro Blue Sport is laden with a number of special features as standard. These include a black-decaled Sport performance hood, a new body-colored Sport grille with black billet inserts and black R-A-M letter badge. Other special features include the flat black exterior body-side and tailgate badging. This black body badging is complemented elegantly by black bezel projector headlamps up front and tail lights employing LED technology on the rear.
Interestingly, the front fascia, rear bumper, side mirrors as well as door handles of the new Ram 1500 Hydro Blue Sport are also finished in the same blue color as the body. As standard, 4x2 models of the Ram 1500 Hydro Blue Sport ride on forged, polished 22-inch aluminum wheels, while 4x4 versions sit on polished 20-inch rims.
Inside, the new Ram 1500 Hydro Blue Sport features a black interior with a number of blue highlight stitching. This highlight stitching can be found on the instrument panel, heated steering wheel as well as door trim. The high-back, black, bucket, heated seats feature Blue Sport embroidery accents with blue Ram’s head logos found on the sides of the headrests. The instrument panel bezels, center console trim as well as door spears are covered with blue anodized surfaces, as complemented by a new instrument panel badge.
Optional elements include full leather seating and trim as well as 20-inch gloss black aluminum wheels and chrome wheel-to-wheel side steps. Also offered options for the Ram 1500 Hydro Blue Sport are black tubular side steps and the RamBox storage system, as well as Active Level air suspension and ParkSense.
With only around 2,000 units set to be produced, the Ram 1500 Hydro Blue Sport comes with a United States Base Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of $46,060, which excludes the $1,395 destination cost. Ram will commence sales of the Ram 1500 Hydro Blue Sport this month.
