2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 can go as fast as 200 mph

A couple of days ago, official sketches of the 2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500’s engine emerged online. And now, The Truth About Cars just found out that the pony is capable of reaching the 200 miles per hour (320 kilometers per hour) mark.

Sources say that there had been leaked information about the speedometer verification procedure, and that the car’s speedometer will reach 214 miles per hour (344 kilometers per hour), which means that the GT500 performs a little better than its rivals now.

Apart from its new and impressive top speed now, there had also been leaked documents indicating that the car will gain a couple of driving modes to improve its performance. There is a “Drag Strip” setting as well as a Launch Control function.

But one thing that can be commonly found on Mustangs that this model does not have is the Track and Snow/Wet modes, which we find interesting. This tells us that the automaker prioritizes straight line performance more than handling.

Another thing that we discovered from Ford’s updated VIN decoder is that the addition of the new 5.2 liter supercharged V8 of the GT500 will take the place of the naturally aspirated engine of the outgoing GT350. Aside from this, Ford will still be offering two other engines that are currently available, and these are the 2.3 liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, as well as the GT’s 5.0-liter V8.

Apart from that, it will also come with a huge set of carbon ceramic brakes, which is new to the Ford Mustang. Other features that the car is said to get include a heads-up display - another thing that is new to the Mustang.

As of today, we have not received any confirmation from Ford with regards to the Mustang Shelby GT500’s power and torque. However, it seems like the said model will have a little over 750 horsepower.

The reason why Ford Performance made the Shelby GT500 is probably because of the fact that the outgoing Shelby GT350 turned out to be a great success. But even before the automaker saw its success, it had already been rumoured that they would turn it up to 11 and come out with a car that will just blow your mind.

Just imagine, the earlier GT500 from year 2013 to 2014 had the most powerful production V8 that produced 662 horsepower. Therefore, six years of research and development later, we should be expecting a much more powerful model for 2019, that will also be sitting on a brand new platform. We are pretty stoked for what this car has to offer, and we can’t wait to see it up close and personal.
